Movie Trailers on Xbox Live Marketplace

Hi,

This may have been asked before, but I've not seen an answer. I understand why the US has many more TV Shows and Movie downloads than over here in the UK (licensing agreements / distributor rights, etc.), though I think Microsoft have been indefensibly slow to sort anything out. The media section of the marketplace blade is basically worthless if you live outside of North America.

But...why can't they make the same movie trailers available??? If I want to watch any of them I can quite legally download them on my PC, so where's the problem? I've had my 360 for a year now, and although I'm generally very happy with it, the complete lack of anything interesting in terms of movies and TV shows is really beginning to p*ss me off, as there's no word or sign of any improvements on the way. My US Gamertag is now useless too (though I'm sure ppl will have found ways around this, e.g. forwarding all their traffic through some US-based proxy).

Re: Movie Trailers on Xbox Live Marketplace

i think its down to uk based M$ office, in therory they could easily get the rights to uk movies ie hot fuzz, but why invest in the server capcity or services when they dont have too, im sure the movie companies/M$ are paying big bucks to get movies and trailers on xbl but outside of the usa its up to the movie studios if they want to work with M$ to get the stuff on xbl.
and what kind of deals M$ can work out.

hell the zune isnt comming to the uk till next year cause its loosing money, just be glad marketplace is thriving or else it wont come to the uk otherwise. being late is better than not comming at all.

Re: Movie Trailers on Xbox Live Marketplace

but then you have to think about your isp t&c, iv moved from the old capless tho throttled p2p Pipex Go 2mb to adsl24 which only allows 30gb from 8am to 10pm, and this is relaxed compared to others broadband services. so i hope when iptv comes to uk every1 has a decent isp, plus downside it will also clogg up the pipes as ppl who are not d/l alot atm start to d/l movies and shows.

Re: Movie Trailers on Xbox Live Marketplace

IPTV traffic would be separate Quality of Service (rather than best-effort) traffic and shouldn't affect your download cap. It wouldn't be in your ISP's interest to limit your VOD viewing when you're paying for it (and have no real way of knowing how much bandwidth you are consuming).

As for movie trailers, I really just think M$ can't be arsed. The available media downloads are pathetic. They still list Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest trailer as a new download! If they don't hurry up, I'll just build myself an HTPC instead (I'm sick of transcoding stuff too) and cancel my Xbox Live subscription.

american isp are trying to make extra cash off ppl saying iptv is costing them more on bandwidth costs so they should pay more. if your service is unlimited (who knows what that means nowadays) then you shouldnt have to worry. im thinking of ppl with limits, ie my bro has BT with 8gb/month cap no way he's gonna d/l and he wont pay more to move to another isp.

htpc's are the way of the future more options on what to d/l and watch but the interface is not too nice unless you run software like MC.

i miss the good ol days where i could watch apple trailers on my xbox, not hd but still loads to choose from. apple hd trailers+M$ 360 would be awesome tho possible as a pig flying past ur window.
