SKY Broardband and 360.

Does anyone have the sky broadband running with there 360, also just in general, so the question is whats sky broadband like for use in the home, thats internet 360 and console gaming really. I can get the 8meg on just now, connect with it being upgraded when the max comes into my area. Any advice would be very helpfull to me today, I am not paying BT £20 anymore when I can get 8meg from Sky for £5, and when I get Max it'll be 16meg unlimeted for £10 a month. Is the numbers too good to be true, or is it worth it. Thanks in advance.

I'd also like to know any opinions on this. I'm having to move house and we're headed to a non-cable area, and it looks like I'll be going with Sky for ADSL as the TV reception is shocking.

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

Im on Sky's MAX package and I connect at aorund 10Mb. The connection is very stable and any problems I have had have been resolved with a router restart, the service has never been down. Connection speeds seem to suffer a little in the evenings but I can always downlaod from sites at aorund 700KB/s, which is good enouugh for me.

Regarding gaming, it has always been really good. I know some people find the ping times a little high, something to do with how the network is managed, but I have never noticed a problem. I used to regulary host 13/14 player games in GR2 with no problems, unless you are a really serious gamer and demand the absolute lowest pings, I think Sky BB is a very good option.

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

I've got Sky BB and a 360, i have loads of connection issues but mine is due to the distance to my exchange so i would look into that first before signing up. I have the 8mb package but sky have had to cap my sevice at 800kb otherwise it constantly loses connection.

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

Thanks for that , no I am not that serious as long as its stable I dont care. I cant have the MAX just now but they said it will be here at the end of the summer, in my area. If I take the mid now I can have MAX as soon as its here, its the price I like £5 a month now and £10 when it goes MAX must be the cheapest around. Also whats the wirless Router like, on my hub I have the 360 wired, PC wirless and PS3 wirless, I would like to be able to have the same on SKY.

OK I will have a look, I have the BT 8meg but its running at 6meg. I dont care as long as I can connect and play on live with no problems. With BT I can do that now, I wouldn't want to change and lose the easy time I have now. I have no conection issues, I can play online with no problems and used to have 12 player on RS:Vegas with no lag, more like 8-10 on GRAW2. Thers more to all this that I thought, maybe I can find a good company and still save money, I hate BT the robbing Gits.

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

I have MAX (advertised as "up to 16Mb") but I only get 4-5Mb. Apparently, my line attenuation is pretty bad (~54db) so it looks like I'm probably stuck at those speeds.

That said the connection has been pretty solid so far.

By the way, MAX is only £10/month but you still have to pay BT £11/month for the line rental.

Thanks, I am going to have the BT line anyway for my phone, at the mo I pay the £22 a month plus phone calls and line rental, way too much. I am concerned about a couple of remarks about SKY conection issues, if anything I want it more for online gaming. Anyway thanks for the replies, keep em coming.

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

My mum has Sky Broadband and my brother has his 360 (wired connection) hooked up to it.

They have the free package, so basic 2mb line.

It is OK, BUT does tend to drop out quite a lot if you have the 360 and internet on at the same time, and a box reset is needed.

BUT, suprisingly, I have found their cust services (both UK and 'abroad') to be pretty good!

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

I'm also due to be moving to a non cable area and will be getting SKY.
With Virgin Cable I currently have 2mb broadband and never have any problems playing online although hosting games with a lot of players can cause lag. If SKY broadband is as good as the Virgin broadband I already have i'll be pleased.
Also does anyone have the wirless option with their 360?
Is it any good?

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

I have sky connect package hooked up to my 360 & laptop both wirelessly and its excellent. Very stable and getting 4mb for £5 a month with a free reliable netgear wireless router its a bargain. Beat my 1mb for £15 from Tiscali anyday :-)

P.s. sky state up to 8mb & upto 16mb. I know i will never see those speeds due to my distance from the exchange but I'm more than happy with ewhat i get anyway so anything more is a bonus.

Usually anything like that has very little to do with the actual ISP.

If a line is loosing sync then it is usually something to do with that line. So that may be the filters aren't working properly, the SNR margin is too low (usually due to noise on the line, or just the line running to fast), or there may be a fault on the line.

Have a look here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/connectionprobs.htm

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

I have the entry level BB package and it's great for general internet etc.

However even a casual gamer like myself has noticed that online games are a little laggy sometimes, especially noticeable in FPS games. Can i recommend you take a look at the BB below, although I think a few of the more upset users are serious gamers/clan PC gamers and their PING times define their happiness/frustration levels.

http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/gaming-sky/

My take is as a freebie/cheap solution it's good as long as you don't take your gaming too seriously ( I am now regular cannon fodder rather than semi-regular, but it's only a game... ).

If you are serious gamer it might not be for you it would appear.

Re: SKY Broardband and 360.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I just dont know what to do. I will be getting the 8meg service but dont think I get that, its about 6meg with an upload of 450-80 depending sometimes it drops below 400 just. I just dont know what to do, why we have these old crappy phonbe lines in todays world I do not know. I live in a brand new house but because there only 5 of them the cable people wasn't willing to put it in, so its a sky BT, combo. Do I take a chance to save quite alot of money over the year or stick with BT and know what I am getting

Or I search for a different internet provider which is cheaper but also very good, HELP.
