How Do I Change NAT Settings??

Been on Xbox Live for a while now and now problems even though my NAT comes up as strict. Tried to get into a Tournament tonight on PGR3 and it won't allow me to do it because it states my NAT settings will not let me continue.

I have a Netgear WGR614 wirelss router but haven't a clue how to do the necessary change. It took me nearly 2 days to set the thing up so I'm a bit wary of messing about with the settings.

If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

I've looked at this but unsure how to do it. When I start I need to pick an option from a drop down menu, it starts with AIM and has other options, Quake etc. I don't know which option to choose.

Many thanks

In your options menu on the router it should have an option of 'DMZ' go into this and put in the I.P. address of the 360 and this should sort out all of your problems as it puts the 360 outside of all the security settings of the router. It worked for me on my old Draytek router but on my new Netgear router it automaticly detected all settings using UPnP so no need to do anything!!

Hope that helps.......

Hi, my Xbox IP address is in the DMZ and I also have Upnp on. It's been okay until today though. When I switched PGR3 on I had an update and haven't been able to get into a Tournament since.

Thanks ShadowmanUK, I have your site bookmarked and it's been very helpful in the past too. The port forwarding always confuses me though!!

Thanks again

I have a Netgear router as well, and my NAT has always been 'strict', no matter what I do. However, I don't have any problems connecting to live sessions.

I have tried the port forwarding route, and the DMZ route but I have never had anything other than a 'strict' NAT. As long as I don't have any connection issues though, I'm not bothered.

When I first went onto live, I had problems getting into PGR3 rooms saying I couldn't connect to all users. Setting up port forwarding resolved this although my NAT still reported as 'strict'

If you've got the latest firmware and UPnP on, you dont need to put the Xbox in the DMZ.

UPnP on the latest firmware works fine, NAT of Open all that way.....

Snap... after the last PGR3 update (yesterday) I can't access the Tournament and it tells me my NAT settings are incompatable! My NAT is Open and passes the Live network settings tests.... it all worked before.

Looks like there may be an issue with the PGR3 update then. Hopefully it'll get sorted pretty quick once they realise what effect it's had for some people.

Re: How Do I Change NAT Settings??

holy crap, guys cant believe this subject in my first search,

anyway ive got the same dam problems with my sky netgear router,
the stupid problem i have is live chatting with some but not all.
some folks also have problems connecting to some gears rooms i make.
i did check my settings last night and i to have a "moderate " setting in nat.

so anybody got the netgear DG834GT, the thing is in that modem we have been told we must uncheck upnp, as it interferes greatly with normal internet, basically locks up the modem.

so really guys what would you suggest i try to get this working fully with xbl..

cheers.

Re: How Do I Change NAT Settings??

well just an update for me,

i have managed to get my nat now to read "open", but iam in a dilemma....

i followed the instructions given on the web site link above, with the dmz, settings for my netgear, but didnt work. now what did work, was just renabeling upnp, and immediately it went to open.

now this is great news obviously, but like i say leaves me stuck somewhat, both sky and netgear are recommending to sky customers to have the upnp enabled as it does severely lock up the internet.

so really i have no idea what to do now, as i obviously need upnp off for the net to work properly and on for my xbl to work...

so any suggestions please,,

Re: How Do I Change NAT Settings??

Hello. Ive been playing halo 3 through xbox live and didnt have any problems with it. But after a couple weeks it started giving me the traditional NAT settings error. It says that it is set at strict and needs to be set at open. I have spent many hours trying to fix this and I am stuck. I am using a Netgear WGR614 v6 router. I am able to access my router settings but it says nothing about NAT settings. I am aware that I might have to open some ports up but I would really appreciate some guidance. Please respond to this or feel free to email me at Hockeystu18@gmail.com

thanks
