Please Help - How To Change NAT Settings!!
Connected up to Xbox Live today via a Netgear WGR614 & the wireless adapter and everything seems to be working fine. I haven't got a clue how to change the NAT settings though & currently NAT is set to Strict. Also, when I click on more info next to the Nat setting and then press Y, I have an error report with 4 lines/codes on it.
Now I've gone through Xbox Live The Guide and have tried to follow it as best I can but just can't suss it out after messing about for a few hours. IP address's & MAC address's all over the place and haven't a clue which ones to use etc. Just to note my UPnP is on.
Tried to set WEP & WPA-PSK too but have to undo as I can't get a connection. Now I'm no computer boffin but I 'm not stupid either and can't think of what else to do. I'm sure an expert could sort it out within 5 minutes! All I have managed to do so far is to set UPnP to on, change my SSID & to stop broadcasting my SSID but unfortunately can't go any further.
If anyone out there could help with a step by step guide I'd appreciate it a lot.
Many thanks

Are you trying to connect to Xblive via wireless or wired?
If you are trying to connect the Xbox wirelessly then firslty setup the wireless on the PC side (router)
Select an SSID - homewireless or something anything you will remember.
dont put encryption on.
now goto the Xbox and put the same SSID into the wireless settings and see if it connects.
If it does then go back to the PC and put up WEP encrption and put a password in that again you will remember
go back to the xbox and enter the same WEP password.
if it works thats it.
ssid broadcast doesnt matter if you have WEP encryption on.

Setting it up wireless. As I say, it's working fine but I can't change the NAT setting from strict. When I set up WEP I put a password in the computer but when I put this in the 360 it says invalid password.
What I want to do is:
1) Change NAT setting to open.
2) Set up WEP.
3) Make sure my 360 gets the same IP address.
I know you need IP address's & MAC address's to do most of this, but there are that many different address's I'm unsure which to use i.e what ip address & what MAC address for each stage.
I don't mean to sound thick but really need a stey by step guide how to set all of the above up and can't seem to work it out from the instructions from Xboxlivetheguide.
Please help.

Hi,
Have you got the latest firmware for the router?
The reason I ask is because my brother has that router. When I set it all up I put his Xbox in a DMZ and the test still reported the NAT as strict. Everything worked fine, no problems joining games etc. It was just misreported thats all. The latest firmware does fix it tho.
There are instructions on my site to fix NAT issues with an example of a Netgear router. Ok its not the same model but its very similar.
Anyway, check the firmware first, its probably a worry about nothing.
As for WEP, just generate a WEP key in the router. Then type that number into the 360.

Still stuck unfortunately. When I look at more info next to the NAT strict and pess Y for status codes it gives more an error report. I really haven't got a clue now and can't mess around anymore as I'm not getting anyway. Still can't use wep as when I put the WEP password into my 360 it comes up as invalid password.
So at the moment I have no WEP, can't change NAT and haven't a clue if my 360 is going to get the same IP address everytime.
This is probably pretty easy to solve if I had half a clue but I've spent so much time on it now and I'm just not getting anywhere.
If anyone's in the Birmingham area and knows what they're doing and doesn't mind helping out, there's a good drink in it for them, other than that, looks like there will be no online gaming for me after all and it's only cost me £160 to get on Live.

But what I'm saying is.. do you actually have a problem joining games? Because that router does misreport its NAT status unless you have the latest firmware.
Ok.. just for you I'll see if I can dig out the email I sent to my bro to configure his up

Right here's what I sent him.
This is just for the DMZ, nothing to do with WEP.
"Here’s what you need to do to make it so you don’t have problems joining games etc.
Start up the 360, go to the Network blade, go to edit settings, go to additional settings and then advanced settings. Take a note of the letters and numbers under the “Wired Mac Address”
Open up Firefox on the PC and type in this:-
http://www.routerlogin.net
Login with the username of admin and password of password
Click on the LAN IP Setup
Click on the Add button
In the IP Address box, type in 192.168.1.20
Type the MAC Address of the Xbox 360 that you got above
Click Apply to enter the reserved address into the table.
Click on the WAN Setup
Look for the default DMZ server setting, change the last digit to 20 and then put a tick in the box, click on Apply.
Reboot the router and the Xbox 360 and it should now be all setup so you can access everyone’s games"

Thanks shadowmanUK, I'll try that. Tried to download the latest firware but couldn't transfer it to the router as I have a Mac at home and the router didn't recognize the file.
I'll have a look in my 360 settings but from memory can never seem to find the Mac address.
Thanks again & I'll give it a go anyway.

Have managed to set the DMZ up now plus I've also managed to set WPA too so at least I have some secuirity now.
NAT setting still on strict but not sure if it's an issue yet as I don't know how to play online & join a game etc.
The only other thing that concerns me is the error report in the "status codes" under "more info" but hopefully these won't affect anything.
Many thanks again ShadowmanUK, you've been a great help. My Gamertag is OCD Boy.

Just to update, have been playing Battlefield 2 Modern Combat online for a couple of hours this afternoon and everything seems to be working just fine.
Thanks for everyone's help, especially ShadowmanUK.

I'm having the exact same problem with this router.
Been tearing my hair out for hours now trying to get NAT set to "open" but cant.
I put the xbox360's IP in the DMZ for the router...disabled the firewall. forwarded ports 88 and 3074 and it still shows as strict. Its on static IP too. Whats weird is that this morning it was showing as open...

If you've got the same problem, read the post. Mr Cole seems happy enough

Set the IP on the 360 to automatic (dhcp), when I set mine to a static it forced strict NAT, but set it to open when dhcp.
