Redeeming 3 month xbox live code error.

Hi,
Iv'e got a 3 month xbox live code and when i put it in on the xbox 360, it knows its a 3 moth code but when i actaully press redeem, it comes up with a message saying something then Try again later (ive tried many times yesterday and today 21/22.11.09) with error code: 8016a04b.

I have no idea why this is happening, i rang xbox and they didn't really help said something about maybe not being activated but don't see how this can be possible.

Anyone got any other ideas?

Did you say you have spoken to xbox support?

Phone back and get a solution, if they said its not activated ensure that they activate it.

If they have no idea what the error means ask for a supervisor they cant just say 'sorry no idea'

Be assertive with them they are there to support you and give you a solution

EDIT: Silver members get gold this weekend in the US maybe its something to do with that maybe try on monday also most matches seem to say its a temporary error

FYI i redeemed a 3 month card on friday afternoon

Cant believe they still haven't fixed this error.

You will see a lot of conflicting info on the internet about it. When you ring MS they wont even know what it is, and wont redeem cards over the phone.

I believe it happens you have used a debit/credit card before on your console (for either subscription or points) and the card details doesn't match the address on your console EXACTLY.
I believe what you need to do is get MS to remove your card from their system and try again (maybe 24 hours later, but may be instant) You may even be able to remove your card yourself via xbox.com > my account and think its the bottom option on the left... like manage payment details or something.

Please try this and keep me updated as i get a few people with this error and will help me out a lot on how you resolve it

Why would they check an address on a card when he is redeeming a 3 month subscription code?... strange

Googling 8016a04b brings up a few forums/solutions. One person wrote that the card wasn't valid for the area your address is in (Is it a USA Card for example?)

If so, you'd have to change your address to an American one before redeeming.. it was a gamestop forum post that found it for full details..

Not sure... i've had a customer before that had this problem and he had his card details removed at MS end and tried redeeming it the next day and worked.

Like i said there are a few conflicting suggestions/solutions, also 3 months cards are NOT region locked. The only subscriptions that are locked are new 12+1's.

Thanks for the help, but still no luck. I had tried online, and still trying i just get a message:An error has occurred during the transaction. Please try again later. Obviously this is rubbish as trying later does nothing.

I've never had any card details assosiated with my gamertag so this can't be it.

But it may be a US code (not 100%) but surely it still should work? but how do i change it so the xbox thinks im in the US like suggested.

Failing this i'll ring them again tomorrow and won't hang up till its sorted, cuz i've contacted where i got it from and they seem stumped as to why i would be being told this.

You cannot change the region of your gametag

Dunno.. if you try and change your address the Region box is grey'd out and no changes can be made to the region.

i had this problem recently. I was subscribing to the £56 a month option when i went over the limit on my card. MS proceeded to take the charge out and failed, epicly. it then continued to freeze my account, and wouldnt let me even use a 48 hour code. thats when i thought you know what? screw therm and created account after account to take advantage of the 1 month free. to take a card off xbox, you have to ring them up, and it takes about 28 days or so i am led to believe. i couldnt be bothered with that so i left it. about a month later, microsoft tired if waiting for me to ring them up or continue the subscription removed the card themselves job done.

also more on topic, i recently used a 3 month code and got the same problem. are you reddeming it from the "redeem code" option on one of your guide button blades, or actually from the xbox live subscription page thingy. when i did it from the guide button it failed, but when i did it from the xbox live page and clicked redeem code it worked.

Sorry to sound dumb but what do you mean by the xbox live page? I tried by bringing up the 'blades' then scrolling to the left to redeem code, but didn't work, also on xbox website same thing happens.

no worries lol. ok connect to live with ur silver account. then on my xbox tab, go right once and youwill be at your profile click that. you will then have multiple options such as :
messages
profile
customise avatar
change theme
manage account
active downloads
switch profile

exactly like that

go to manage accounts
then go to redeem code from the list available thats how i did it n it worked.
