2 gamers, 1 live account?

Hi,

Pretty new to console gaming, as Ive always been a pc fan, but just cant afford to keep upgrading my graphics card every 12months. So, me and my brother have gone halves on a new xbox360.

Ive just signed up for a 1month live subscription to see how much use I'd get out of it, now my brother wants to try live as well. Am I right in thinking that he will have to pay for a live subscription separate to mine, or can you have two gamertags under one subscription on the same console?

Thanks for the advice and apologies if the answer to this has already been posted, I couldnt seem to find it

thanks
thom

If you want gold membership you will have to pay individually.

When connected to LIVE by default you will get silver membership.

When you first make a new gamertag you get 1 months free subscription anyway. So if he makes his own gamertag, he automatically gets access to Gold membership for a month... he can then decide whether he wants to pay for a full membership when the free one runs out (yes, each gamer tag has to buy Gold membership).

You can only use the free "1month gold membership" once per gamertag (you need a hotmail or @live account). You could both get trials at the same time for a free month, or one after the other (2months), however you would need to pay afterwards for 2 individual memberships.

Depends how fussed you are about sharing a Gamertag.

For any Live multiplayer games with two of you on the one Xbox you only need one Live membership, the second person just logs on as a Guest. If, for example, your Gamertag is Rimmet, then the guest/your brother will appear as Rimmet (1).

The disadvantages to this are that:

Your brother will not gain any achievements when playing on Live (but will still do so under his own Gamertag);

Your brother will not be able to have his own friends list;

If you brother wants to play over Live on his own, you will need to let him use your Gamertag (and anything he does in terms of achievements or reputation will be counted as yours).

Whether these make an extra Gold account worth the expense is up to you (and your brother).
