help with connection

had an elite for about a month,ethernet cable to wireless router then connected to my laptop,over the last few days cant connect to x-box live,if i buy the x-box wireless adaptor will it definately work or do i need a new router? i can buy one but not both.
help!!!

If it is connected to the router (360) by ethernet i can't understand why it should not be connected, a wireless adapter will work straightaway though, well when added to the Network list
