NAT Settings Issue

Hi guys - i appreciate you must get these all the time however on this one i'm truly stumped, even after a fair bit of research!

Basically upon getting Modern Warfare 2 I saw when going into play multiplayer online it registered my NAT settings as 'moderate', and sometimes even 'strict'. Now the Xbox itself never told me there was any problems when connecting to Xbox live, or testing the connection - however it does make sense as i do quite regularly have problems in joining peoples party's / games.

My network info:

I have a Netgear DG834GT router, and can connect to it either by wireless or cable. The router is being used as a DHCP Server, and initially i assigned my Xbox a specific IP address within the range.

When forwarding the ports i made sure i forwarded them all specifically to this pre-assigned IP address for my Xbox 360 - this didn't work at all.

I also have tried making sure UPnP is enabled - which it is.

I have also tried using my Xbox's assigned IP address as a DMZ - again no luck.

The thing that really baffles me though is that my brother is connected to the exact same network, with no assigned IP, no ports forwarded and his NAT settings appear as open!?!

(I have also tried de-assigning my Xbox it's IP - so it changes each time like my brothers - this doesn't work either)

Now i'm stuck, nothing seems to work - i can't even get any consistency keeping it at moderate - it fluctuates as it wishes!

Where i have assigned my Xbox an IP in the DHCP range - is that the same as manually assigning (in Xbox's dashboard) an IP address?

Any help guys would be much appreciated!

Re: NAT Settings Issue

What happens when you disconnect your brothers xbox from the router? Does your NAT become open? I've read before of problems with multiple xbox's on one router but never done it myself so don't know exactly what they are or how to solve them.

Re: NAT Settings Issue

i have a netgear dg834g v4 router and had the same problem as you. with the routers been different it may be worth trying what i have done, it may not.

i have managed to get it working heres how i did it.

1. set both xbox's to automatic address - under xbox network settings
2. assign each xbox an ip via DHCP and mac, in router
3. Turn off all portforwaring for the xbox's
4. enable UPNP
5. Assign one xbox ip to the DMZ
6. Tick box to "Disable Port scan and DOS protection" under WAN settings

there may be another way, but i ve just got it working this morning. Good luck
