Hello. I have had this problem for a few months now. Basically whenever I am online I 'Appear Offline' to everybody in my friends list. This has caused me to lose allot of friends online because they don't think I use it anymore and also my friends cannot 'join session in progress'. I have emailed xbox live but had no reply.
A friend suggested that I should set it to 'Offline' sign out, then sign in again and change it to 'Online'. I did this and a few other things but still no joy.

Has anybody also had this problem or do you have any knowledge to how I could resolve it?

Press guide button > Personal Settings > Online Status > Appear Offline

Or something like that. That will be the setting you have enabled. Turn "appear offline" off and you should be ok.

Are you thinking of privacy settings where no one can see your status etc.?

No, it's a specific one for your online status. I went in there and set myself to 'Appear Offline' when I was letting the AI drive the Endurance races in Forza 2, so friends didn't wonder why I was ignoring their messages.

Yep I worked it out last night. I found it under privacy settings while looking at My Xbox on the website on my laptop. I have no idea how it had changed my status to 'blocked' to everyone, but it is sorted now.

Iaianl7: There is the setting to appear offline for a while but as soon as you sign out and back in again it defaults to always online, hence i though it was privacy settings
