Using a router instead of a xbox wireless bridge (help)

Pretty much what title says i think my wireless bridge is packing up as I have to constantly move my xbox around to get a decent connection whih ends up in lots of lag. So i want to use my Netgear dg834gt to connect to the actual router and i was wondering if its as easy as plugging the netgear into the xbox and im off or if theres some thing I need to do first or is it even possible. And no I havent tried yet i thought id ask while while i wait to be bothered to find the router. As I dont really know how to explain my self this is what i mean

Xbox -----> Netgear router ------> Router which will connect to the internet

I think You need a bridge not another router, you can get cheap Belkin ones from amazon, they call them gaming adaptors sometimes. There may be a way to do something with 2 routers but i have never heard of it working

I've not heard of that kind of workaround working before....

How far away from the router is your 360? Do you have to have a wireless connection?

Its quite close its just im not sure if its the reception or not because it was a case of one day I had no lag the next day a constant amount now when i move my xbox around sometimes i have lag sometimes I have none mostly I do though but Im not sure if moving my xbox around has anything to do with the reception or if its just the lag fluxuating.

Re: Using a router instead of a xbox wireless bridge (help)

do you mean wirelessly ?

e.g xbox -> wired connection -> Netgear dg834gt -> wireless -> internet router.

If so you might have a problem as the router will have to have the option of acting like a bridge and I dont know if that model can do it - also sometimes bridging from one router to another doesnt work very well if there not the same make (not always but I have had issues)

Sweat is right an you can get an access point instead of a router fairly cheap BUT if your wireless problems are being caused by, say a neighbor getting a new wireless router which is messing with your signal, then this wont help you. I have found more and more that as wireless is appearing in every home I cannot get good signals - hence I moved to powerline. In my current flat I can see 20+ routers on wireless.

Re: Using a router instead of a xbox wireless bridge (help)

If your router supports "Wireless Distribution Service" then you should be able to get this to work, if not then you need to look at getting a wireless access point or switching to Ethernet over power.

The issue you will have as I see it though, is that if the signal to the access point/router is not strong enough you will have exactly the same issue, some properties are just not conducive to wireless networking and not matter what you try you will not get a solid solution.

You can get Power over Ethernet solutions at a reasonable price these days so would be worth looking into.

Good luck

Re: Using a router instead of a xbox wireless bridge (help)

I stopped using wireless for gaming when I discovered homeplugs....

Regarding the fluctuating signal, have you changed the wireless channel at all? It may help if you are on the default settings...
