Help improving ping on a bt 8 meg connection

hi all this is my first post on this site after it came up on google often when searching for information on how to improve my connection.
I purchased BT 8 meg unlimited download wireless earlier in the year and installed it all no problem. I had switched from orange 8 meg which was absolutely pathetically slow. Basically this new connection isn't really a whole lot better. I play xbox live everyday and want my ping fixed for modern warfare 2, my ping in call of duty games is always 3 bars or 2 bars... Never 4! I took a speed test which came back with my latency at 136 ms, dowmload: 1.49 Mb/s, Upload: 0.30 Mb/s. Please can someone help me get that ping down i would be so so so thankful!!!
Thanks for anyone who tries to help

Re: Help improving ping on a bt 8 meg connection

thanks i'll take a look. My speed is exceptionally slow today, it's usually 6 meg which is decent speed from an 8 meg connection. i'll test my latency when my speed increases and see what it comes back with

Re: Help improving ping on a bt 8 meg connection

How are you testing ping?

If your using Speedtest.net or there Beta Pingtest.net what server are you using and what distance from server does it say?

If your less than 50 miles from server then 136ms is bad

If its 1000's of miles away e.g. USA that 136ms is not to bad.

Mark..

I think you're going to have to talk to BT as Steve said, however, there's only so many things that they can do. It all comes down to distance, line quality and other things outside of their control really. You could ask for interlacing (I think that's what it's called) to be turned off but then you may get stability issues. When I turn mine off mine my ping to bbc will go from about 16ms down to about 9 but I also get random disconnects so I just have it on now, I'm not with BT though.
