What is your average ping?

The owners of speedtest.net have recently opened a new site called pingtest.net
So i thought i would start a similar thread to: What is your average connection speed?
It is still in its Beta but looks quite cool

My test to Maidenhead (the recommended server for me)

A test for everyone to compare to (trying New York)

For some reason the packet loss test wouldnt work for NY or Washington DC for me

Re: What is your average ping?

No matter what I have tried to do over the last 7 days or so, I cant get the packet loss test to show anything other than 100 % loss.

It seems to be something to do with configuring ICMP through firewalls but even though I think I have ticked the right boxes within windows firewalls it still doesnt allow the test to run properly.

Anyone know anything else I need to "tick" ?.

As for the overall test result, I got a B with pings varying from about 12 up to 32 but as far as the crow flies, I am only 15 miles from Maidenhead server but how far in reality it is measured from ........

As regards jitter, that varies from 1 through to 21.

Not bad.

My contract is up for renewal soon. The speed/response has been getting steadily better for the last few weeks.

That isnt bad at all Codey

This doesnt seem a bad site it just needs the creases ironed out but cant expect 100% stability with it being a beta

Re: What is your average ping?

Anyone else find that this gives a different ping reading than speedtest.net

Does this mean pingtest is more accurate than speedtest and speedtest is wrong?

Pretty much, yes. The pingtest runs loads of ping tests and averages the results, rather than what appears to be the one-off test on speedtest. More data = better results.
