How do i test my nat setings?

Hi AV forumites. I just got Virgin cable broadband yestarday, with the ambit cable modem + the netgear wgr614 v9 router. I have got me pc and 360 setup using ethernet cables cos i havnt got any wireless adaptors yet, managed to set my ip settings and log on to the routers page and forward the ports for xbox live. do i need to forward those same ports in my microsoft firewall? also how do i know if my nat settings are open, cos i can playonline on any game and dont get any strick nat messages like i used to playing halo 3 using a broadband dongle. cheers!

No, you don't need to open ports on the firewall unless you are using ICS.

To check any NAT errors goto the system/network blade and 'check live connection'

If you are managing to play unhindered that would suggest that your NAT settings are fine.

If you do the test connection on your xbox and get no messages afterwards, then your connection is open. They changed the system and now only post messages when moderate or strict connections are detected so you are good to go

As Shovel said, you'd know if you had a strict NAT because of the problems it would cause.

Also, welcome to the forums .

You don't need to but if it's not being used, be aswell turning it off.
