AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

Another tricky, fun and competitive round i'm sure you'll agree. The round was eventually won by Deano for his 2nd victory of the season and came oh so close to the elusive 1:02.xx time that was the target for a couple of us. Congratulations to all those who dipped into the 1:03's on this tricky track

This week is the final round of the season so nows the time to pull out your best efforts. Looking at the top times for this combo is it taken up by some of the more 'famous' racers out there so taking the top spots may be harder than in previous rounds. Good Luck men.

Rules/Information:-
Welcome to the first FCC for PGR4, for all you who have competed before its the same format as before so go get your racing gloves on and lay down some laps. For those who are new keep reading and i'll try to answer some common questions.
The FCC(Forum Car Challenge) is a competition that uses the time trial section of the game
Each week we will run a different track and car class(decided by a vote), the track and class are always in the subject of the thread
Yes anyone can enter

You can run as many or as few laps as you like

You must post your time in THIS THREAD for it to be counted.

When posting your times please post them in the following format: 1:12.34sec

If you don't have 'live' you can still take part but photographic evidence may be required to verify your time.

When posting an improved time please create a new post. Do not update your original post.

Please send a friends request to PooonTangster if you wish to enter, this will make it easier to check your times

Winner of each round will receive 1000pts. The amount of points that you score will depend on how far behind the winning time you are. To score any points you will need to run a time that is no more than 10% slower than the winning time. e.g. if the winning time is 1:00.00sec then the 10% cut-off point would be 1:05.99sec so any time slower than this would not score points.

This round will close at midnight Saturday 8th December

No Vote needed this week as its the last week of the season

Looks like 4 for B (Pooon, Inspector 68, VolvoV70, XaShark), and 4 for E too (ace919, SportiveUK, The Fuggler, Morbie).

The votes were tied, b and e, so i took the decision to call it as E as we haven't run that class yet

Good job too 'cos i've just run a half decent 55.44 in E class.

That's probably my only time again this week, hopefully it'll hold a mid-table position again for me.

56.96 in the Imprezza as a start but I reckon I can knock a fair bit off that as the week goes on...

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

Yeah, 54.56. Had a 30 minute session, the first 20mins of which I spent on the rev limiter and bouncing off the sides!!!! Took abit of getting used to.

I'm hoping for a 53 this week.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

I'm struggling a bit with this one, but I've so far managed to drag it round the track in a 55.69.

I've probably got another half second in me, if I can match all my splits in a single lap, but I'm not going to have much time to play this week so that might be it for me

Slight improvement - 56.19sec. Aiming for a 55.00 but I doubt it.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

well a 54:56 for me for starters. Felt good about matching Deano's first effort only to realise he'd knocked off another half a second.

And Pooon is as always just about .10 in front.

I think there is a low 54:00 in there somewhere.

I'd love to beat TMMMclarenF1, I'd be very happy with that.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

yup!!! 54.46sec for me, and i hate to admit it but i had to really work for that time as well, so not sure if i can take another half second off that.

Deano, how you taking the long right where the first split is? i'm knocking it into 4th and hammering it up the hill revving the guts out of it, but i suspect it may be faster in 5th with a bit of a roll round the first part of the corner, so whats your theory. Oh and last corner in 4th seems to work somehow

I do that fast right up to it in 4th and change to 5th as I turn, seems very slightly quicker.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

I've done both and I think 5th is quicker. My approach is similar to Col's. I tend to hit the limiter in 4th just before turning right and then sometimes shift upto 5th through the checkpoint. The car feels more planted/stable in 4th thou for me so I probably favor that although it maybe ever so slightly slower. There ain't much in it either way I don't think. I've ran a .08 one way and my .06 the other but can remember which way round it was.

My gear selections are 4th over the line on the limiter, down to 2nd for the right and quickly up to 3rd for the left onto the straight, then up to 4th (obviously). Sometimes up to 5th through the checkpoint, down to 4th for the rest after that up until the last two right handers which for me are 3rd.

Good Luck.

On a side note, anyone had a run at the global cup. Its just UK racers on a Las Vegas track. Had a few laps last night and my best was a 55.something. However #1 is a 51.85. I don't think you can watch replays/ghosts of the times so am abit curious as to where they find so much time. I reckon I could get into the 54's but thats still way off the pace. Any ideas? Can only think it must be a bash or two?

55.23 with a big rub along the wall through the quick third turn.

Nice to hear your gear selections as well chaps. I have been leaving it in third through the first chicane but i'll try second when i next run some laps.

I think a 54.5 is possible for me but time will tell.

Maybe its my gear selections that are costing me that half second!! as mine(on a good lap) would be 5th over the line, 3rd in chicaine, upto 5th before the corner with the 1st checkpoint, knock it into 4th for corner(trying not to brake!)cross checkpoint in mid to high 18's, into 5th up hill, down to 4th for corners at top of hill, leave in 4th but up into 5th for fast-ish left hander, into 3rd, into 4th for last corner

and no i've not had a go at the global thingy so cant answer that one matey

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

I have a first split (on a good lap) of around 18.3 so that might be where you're loosing a bit.

I'll experiment with a few different gears selections tonight. Especially the 4th gear last corner. Would have never tried that one as I'm usually at about 6,000 rpm in 3rd when I hit the apex which leaves me 2,000 rpm to the limiter.

3rd might be quicker in the first series of corners. I only use 2nd to help with slowing down. I'm up into 3rd again almost straight away.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

I'm a bit confused how I managed it, with a poor first corner, having to ease right off at the top of the hill before the chicane, AND late on the power for the penultimate right-hander (and I think I clanged a barrier along the way too!!), but I've ended up with a 54.89

Looks like that'll be my last chance to improve before Saturday - hopefully I can get in a few laps then.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

54.94.

I can manage to get ahead of Pooons ghost as i cross the first check point and through the quick downhill chicane after that follows but through the remainder of the lap i struggle to keep up.
Must try harder

Though having said that i may be trying to hard at times.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

53.93 using my gear selections mentioned earlier in thread. No 5th Gear used, I left it on the limiter crossing the line and at the first checkpoint. Best first checkpoint of my session using no 5th was 18.16.

Global cup is a waste of time. Its a big bash at the end of the straight. I think there may only be 20 qualifying places and there are certainly more bashers in the UK than that. Its ruined.

Re: AvForums - PGR4 FCC - Rampart Run - Class E

Open up with a 55.26.

Feel that I can go half a second quicker on a perfect lap (for me anyway!)

cheers

Jim
