I wish MS would leave it as a games console.
I'm getting fed up of seeing adverts, and adverts for things I'll never use on my 360.
YouTube, Daily Motion, Netflix, Zune, LastFM.
I've got a blu-ray player for DVDs/Blu-rays, and I've got a MacBook for browsing the net.
My Xbox is for games, and I don't want any if this other stuff on it or advertised all over it.

Why not just set your console to load to disk then and you wont see any of that.
I personally think its great that we get stuff like Last.FM and Netflix on the 360.
2 of my most used Apps on the 360.

Its still a gaming console with a few extra's, no doubt someone will come out with the phrase ' HARDCORE GAMER '

But I do think the 360 does not need a Browser, a few years back maybe but not now with those apps included.

Personally, using a game controller to move a mouse cursor and to type with will always be a horrible experience. I'd rather MS continued to focus their efforts on what they have already been doing right lately, like Last.fm, Sky and LoveFilm etc.

Also, I own a PS3 too and honestly the browser is rubbish. Not much different than the one on the Dreamcast! I'd rather use my Android phone if not near a PC.

Because I like to see who's online, and check out the games marketplace, as well as some of the videos from Inside Xbox like SentUAMessage.
Ya know, game related stuff.
Plus, I don't use auto sign-in and sometimes, when I don't want to be bothered I set myself to appear offline before I sign in.

Yes, you should have got a PS3 if that was the requirement. If money isn't an issue, then go get one. If it is, you really should have done 5 minutes research first!

I beleive they call that advertising. It's very effective.

In my opinion there is no need of browser on Xbox, I guess every Xbox user has a PC or laptop for such needs.

And I'm sick of seeing it all over my Xbox.
I'm not interested in having movies, music, YouTube and all this other non-game related stuff either on or advertised on my system.
I paid for my Xbox and I pay for my gold membership, I shouldn't have to put up with stuff I have no interest in using on my Xbox.

I use my Xbox for games.
That playing games from a disc, playing online games, downloading add-ons, game trailers and demos and using the party chat.

Everything else is an annoyance that I don't want.

Personally i hope they do bring out an official browser for the Xbox 360. That way we can browse other sites. However if they did make a browser there would be many security issues they would need to consider which sadly in my opinion is doubtful we will see a browser on the Xbox 360 as much as id love to see one

Pixel thankyou for the reply and the kind link to the video. I am aware that you can browse the internet this way however that requires that you own software which sadly not to many people have the time or will to download and install this software.

Also those comfortable with Windows XP no longer are able to buy or download that software as well which sadly doesn't help matters. Perhaps a browser added to the Xbox 360 console that is independent from Windows Media Center would be a better and more effective solution.

The guy has a capable PC running next to his xbox yet why would anyone want to run through all those cumbersome steps and use a poor peripheral and UI to browse the net on their xbox?

That only holds up if someone only plays retail disc-based games I'm afraid Tones. If you play lots of arcade games then you've got to jump through hoops to try and get to them.

I've come to accept I've no control over the changes which have happened to my games console and the shift away from being a games-orientated piece of hardware to becoming a jack-of-all-trades media hub but I just wish the games section could be close to the 'home' page on the xbox and that it wasn't a necessity to have a degree in bollockology to find where MS keeps hiding game related things.

Can you not just use the middle guide and select quick launch and load arcade games that way ??

I normally dont jump from game to game so most of the time I just load up the 360 and select the disc in the tray.
I am not fussed on changes, it will still play my games so its all good for me.
I can understand why people would get annoyed but I dont see the point because we have no control over it.

I can quick launch the past few games, which is fine if one of the ones I'm wanting to play is in my recent game history but I've got about 80 arcade games now and a whole bundle of indie games so in reality I need to go to the 'My Games' section.
With all the recent apps etc I don't see why MS have never implemented a section we can set up on our own for quick launching specified games, would make far more sense doing that than having 4 or 5 music apps on the platform, in my eyes at least.

I just get annoyed that the reason I bought the console becomes less of a priority as time goes on, the reason the xbox was successful was because of the games and the gamers, now it's the mainstream stuff that is becoming the selling point and it just makes my console slower and more cumbersome to use. If all these things were integrated from the start I might feel differently but I just wish we had more choice to strip things back to basics a bit.
