Clock Doesn't Work

Whilst I didn't buy my 360 to tell the time, I've found it pretty annoying that whenever I turn it off, the clock resets to 2005. Should it be doing this?

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

I suppose of all the things that could have gone wrong with it, the clock is the least important. Meanwhile, though, the clock on my humble Wii is as accurate as the day I bought it.

Codehead said his does this.

I assume that the RTC on 360s aren't particularly reliable. Who would have guessed.

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

Dont suppose it makes much difference really, but if you play fable 2, depending on how long between sessions, the game checks your clock and determines how much money you'd have earned from your businesses, etc (i think thats how it works anyway. ) Not sure if any other games use the system clock like this.

But to your original question, no i't shouldn't do this. It says in the system settings that the clock is changed automatically when connected to XBOX live and can;t be changed? You are connected?

Xbox Live doesn't actually manage the clock, although it is meant to, mine has been running about 4mins fast. I was playing with someone, both online, and our clocks were about 10mins different.

Xbox has no battery, there is a capacitor that last's up to 5hrs

apparently the clock is in the MCPX for the xbox.

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

The original xbox was the same, as is the Dreamcast. Turn them off and the clock resets, v.annoying.

No onboard battery, as Mark said.

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

Surely you keep your 360s plugged into the mains? Meaning that it doesn't matter that it has no battery.

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

Turn mine off at night, as it never actually goes off otherwise, due to the remote on function.

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

the clock only keeps time if it has an internet connection (doesn't have to be connected to xbox live).

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

I turn my mains sockets off at night.

Dont see why things need to be running on standby all night.

Not that i've had any issues with the clock though...

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

Xbox Live doesnt keep the clock it just locks it

my clock was wrong and really annoying me so disconnect from live change the clock reconnect and it stays the same just you can no longer change it in the settings

plug it into live and let it keep it locked once you have set it, also the xbox when off doesnt use the internet (my lan switch says it doesnt but my computer does when off)

i never knew it was a capacitor

Re: Clock Doesn't Work

Well now I know it's not faulty, that's certainly a weight off. I tend not to leave things plugged in overnight - can't see the point of having consoles plugged in when not in use - and in response to an earlier question, I'm not connected to Xbox Live (can't see that I ever will be, to be honest).

Your missing 50% of the Xbox experience. As someone originally sceptical and resistant to Xbox Live, I can no longer live without it. Even if you don't have Gold, at minimum you need it connected to the internet just for the web integration.
