Two points.....

Where have all my game demo downloads gone?

After installing COD WAR on my HDD I didn't have enough space to download anything else! So I uninstalled it and I'm now going to be playing it straight from the disc! Seems worth the noisy disc drive to free up the 6.5gb that the game installed onto my HDD!

Re: New Xbox Experience (NXE) - From 1000 GMT November 19 2008

Found what I think is a bug already, or at least an oversight.

If you are sat at the dashboard with a game in the DVD drive the disk spins all the time - not at full speed but you can still hear it. Run the game and it goes quiet as the disk stops.

Its lovely when it all goes quiet, I'm going to try a DVD in the external HD-DVD drive, if the game disk still spins in the main drive it will be a bit rubbish.

Surely this isn't right - patch number 1 please.

Other than that - much much better IMO.

Well I did this earlier, was playing Ninja Gaiden 2 and my brother had to go take a van back to his work, so I went back to the dash and waited for him to return ( he don't like to miss any of the action lol ) anyway I heard not a whisper from the drive as it sat idling at the dash board with the disk still in the drive, totally silent

I think it's really a breath of fresh air, it looks very modern and up to date. The old dash looks very....well old now.

Like others have said a music player update would have been nice, but one step at a time I suppose.

So you only get to see the main background? I was curious on some of the extras you get like the images behind each person in your friends list and the like. Oh well, let's dive in! I have 4200 points making their way to me on Friday anyway

Re: New Xbox Experience (NXE) - From 1000 GMT November 19 2008

OK, installed fine, my two questions, how do I get it to start on the My Xbox page instead of the Welcome or Spotlight pages? Second, I don't want my Avatar as my gamerpic and I know you don't have to (cos Tetlee told me so ) so how do I change it back?

Go to My Xbox, select your avatar, then edit profile and pick gamer picture. In there you can change your gamer picture and your personal picture

I noticed when you put a disc in, it loads up automatically.

Is this new or did it happen with the old dashboard, as well?

you can set it to do what you want, i turn it off as otherwise sometimes im doing something and someone else puts the disc in.
But it use to have it auto do it on the old dash.

i thought they had scrapped that but instead replaced it with an option of what you wanted to do first? Personally i would have preferred that as if you want to install a game, you have to put the disc in, wait for it to start, then return to the dash. Is there a way of holding a button to stop the autorun? Similar to shift in windows

other than that i'm quite pleased, lots of live loading errors but hey.

nice to have something new and all that, once i've had a decent go on it and the honeymoon period is over my views might be different

Edit - oh, i feel like a boob now

That's a setting you can change - was the same with the old dash.

Is this happening for anyone else? I want my who screen to be used up!
You will get black bars because you are displaying the 16x9 ratio image from the xbox on a screen that is 16x10 apsect ratio. The black bars mean the image is being displayed at its correct aspect ratio and not vertically stretched in order to fill the whole screen.

Unlike a PC the xbox doesn't render games at different resolutions depending on your settings, but renders at one (usually 1280x720 which is 16x9 aspect ratio) resolution and then scales it to what ever setting you decide. This means that the output will always be 16x9 aspect ratio. In the case of 1440x900 which is 16x10 it will add black bars to the top and bottom to maintain the correct aspect ratio of the image. This hasn't happened before because you were never able to send 16x10 aspect ratios from the xbox and therefore your computer monitor will of always vertically stretched the image to fill the screen.

I've finally had a chance to play with the dash now it has been released and it definitely performs slightly better than the preview, although the Marketplace is still slow and is generating error codes I never got during the preview.

Looks cracking... don't like the "nintendo-ness" of the avatar thing though!

Would be nice to be able to see the startup option to not be the spotlight as it's just bloody advertising!! Unless I've missed that option somewhere?

This has been annoying since the preview and still is after MS made Spotlight the default channel about a week ago. Before this, it was My Xbox after you hid the Welcome channel, which is the most logical and useful place to start.

We can't change it, MS control this at their end.

Time to change my sig....

Downloaded the update OK my both my 2 consoles. Pity that Xbox Live has, for me anyway, gone slow. I guess its due to the gamers in the States coming home from work and downloading the update.

NXE looks very polished, me like.

Re: New Xbox Experience (NXE) - From 1000 GMT November 19 2008

Just downloaded this and it's great! A really good update IMO, can't fault it.

I wouldn't say it's like a new console as such, but it certainly displays the same info much better than the old blades and is much more fun to use.

Just installing a game to HDD now to check out the noise when playing.

I like it, the ability to install games onto the harddrive is great!
