"Right, today (August 17th) I went into Gamestation and asked what was happening. They had just received some info so here it is:
There will be no transfers instore, as it will take over and hour, and they do not want to be held responsible for any data loss. Fair enough I thought.
They will however be having an offer on, where you can trade your Premium in and get the Elite for £139.99, When you trade in your Premium, they let you keep your original 20gb harddrive and take it home with your new Elite. They deduct the value of the harddrive off the premium when trading it in(they said £32) and you can then transfer the content in your own time at your house. You then go back to the store with your 20gb harddrive and receipt for your Elite within the next 30 days, and then get your £32 back by the method you paid for the Elite.
They confirmed transfer cables would not be in the Elite box, and they could be requested from Microsoft free of charge, by even ringing them, or sending a form off that had been downloaded from xbox.com
Obviously I don't know what other stores will be doing, but Gamestation's method does seem to be very ideal."
Hope that helps.
This has now been confirmed by other forum members, so not just my Gamestation store doing it. Best to contact your local one if interested.
