360 Elite - Component and HDMI at the same time?

Afternoon everyone,

Does anyone know if the Elite will output via the HDMI port and Component connection at the same time? The SkyHD box does this but im not sure about other equipment. Reason I ask, is that when I move into my new flat im going to be having HD in bedroom and lounge (both screens mounted on the dividing wall of the 2 rooms). Im intending to have the screen in the lounge fed mostly by HDMI and then the bedroom screen to be fed by component (cheaper than an HDMI switcher/splitter box!)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

John

Apparently it doesn't as you physically can't have both leads connected at the same time, I asked this very question as I wanted to connect the elite to a projector and LCD TV. Bit of a pain that you can't it has to be said

Erm yes you can have both leads plugged in at the same time. The HDMI port is a different port to the AV socket. Dunno about them both outputting though. I would think the HDMI would take preferance, but thats just me. Guess you'll have to wait till friday to find out for sure or find an american fellow with an Elite to help out.

It would have been great if you were able to do this, It would save on having two 360's

That is good though as it saves messing around with cables and it's a shame that is not do-able with the 360, perhaps it is... if we hack away at the big chunky plastic part of the Component cable to make it fit alongside the HDMI. Still, I have to wonder what would happen then, would the 360 automatically output to two video outputs or knowing my luck it probably wouldn't work at all and I'd get 3 red lights.

If someone is brave enough to try it then I'm sure myself and zAndy1 would love to hear the results

It's not physicaly possible to have them both connected at the same time. Trust me I have already tried on my Elite. The connection for the standard AV cables whether it be component, scart or composite is too thick and bulky. As the HDMI port is right below it there is no way to connect both at the same time.

The AV dongle which is for audio only that comes included with the Elite is much thinner and so does not have that problem. If MS had included video out on the AV dongle then it might have worked using standard component cables assuming it's actually technically possible to output to video sources from the Elite.

Re: 360 Elite - Component and HDMI at the same time?

Ok guys, thanks for your input.

Just got my Elite this morning and thought I was on to a winner. I have one of those Joytech 360 component switchers which uses its own straight through AV cable. The connectors on this are much smaller than the AV pack that comes with the 360, so much smaller infact that you can have the HDMI lead and this AV lead connected at the same time. However, it does not work. If you have both connected at the same time, then neither of them output! Ah well, back to the drawing board I guess

Just thought you guys might be interested.

Cheers

John
