Why are we subjected to the pile of tosh, that is an action RPG so often these days....yet there is currently only 1 J-RPG on the Xbox 360....
I'm sure people love them, everyone I know loves them, they always sell loads these days.
Yet we get these dull aimless, "be an amazing.....witch, wizard, elf, pickpocket, warrior.....etc" games....Do people actually like chosing how their character looks? Wandering around a generic world aimlessly? I know you get different classes or whatever they're called in JRPGs, but they serve a purpose to the story, you work with the strengths and weaknesses of that character, you embrace the characters as opposed to an Action RPG where you chose one and "become it". Its like comparing "Chose your own adventure books" to a fantastic deep novel on screen.
I'm all for games like Oblivion, if they were a little more advanced...Personally I just feel lonely when I play them, I don't really feel prompted to explore, because the exploration is so bland and flat. There's no emotion there....
I blame the americans (as usual). Without them, I'm sure we wouldn't have been labled as having that bland, dummed down gaming appetite.
People call J-RPGs dummed down, but they are forgetting why people played RPGs originally, the games they are playing aren't even RPGs....they are living a boring life they lead as some "hero" or whatnot. Thats not what an RPG is about.
Am I missing something here....Soz for rant, curious what people thing....I wouldn't complain its just the "Action RPG" is definately contributing to the decline in the JRPG, I just don't think people "get it". Not enough intellect. But that could be total ignorance on my part in which case put me straight
I was reading the reviews for Blue Dragon, they all seem to say that the story has been done before many times? So what, thats the whole point, all JRPGs are in essence the story of good vs evil, they will all have similarites, or even be nigh on the same, the dialogue is different and the feel is different thats what people want....they want more "hours" or entertainment!!!! I think these reviewers all bum off the Action RPG and most likely biased, shouldn't really be doing the review.
Would you allow someone who doesn't like the game of Chess, review the latest "Chessmaster" from UbiSoft?
Thank yooooooo
