Try posting in 'Other Gaming Chat'. You'll only get biased/fanboy comments in the specific PS3 and 360 forums.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

I'd say depends on why you want to get another machine....

If you're in your local gaming emporium casting envious eyes at all the new games coming out in glorious HD, you must be looking at the 360 section, so get a 360. If, on the other hand, you're browsing round the rather small selection of blu rays with an itchy credit card, then get a PS3!

Hi Martin

What were your favourite games on ps2, this may help or hinder your decision.

They both have lots going for them imo.

I agree...however you have to look at what's currently available on each format as that'll play a major part in your decision....

Re: Xbox or PS3??

I've had a 360 for almost 18months and loved it but got my second red light of doom so pondered over buying a PS3 whilst it was back at MS getting fixed (15 day turnaround so not too bad). Eventually bought it on the basis as blu-ray player that can do some other stuff too.

360-
Pros :-great games, great achievements/user profile/friend management, brilliant on xbox live (but needs subscription, wifi card etc. Gears of War, GRAW2, Forza, Halo 3
Cons:- noisy, almost certain to break and need repaired

PS3
Pros:- Blue ray, can run linux OS, built in bluetooth/ wifi, no subscriptions, quieter, RFOM, Motorstorm, MGS and Killzone 2
Cons- Seriously (and I mean this), seriously lacking in great games so far.

Both you cant lose then i have the 360 in my playroom and the ps3 downstairs set up on all the av gear, my only real preference is the 360 controler beats the ps3s hands down apart from the weight

Totally agree. Never liked the Sony controller - my main gripe with the PS2 and the reason I bought things on my Cube if there were out on both.

Cannot believe they have stuck with that design for the PS3. It feel comfortable for D-Pad, but not one or even dual stick use - which is predominat method of control these days.

Not played a PS3 so cannot comment, but the Live/Friends/Achievement system on 360 is quite simply amazing - especially if a few of your friends have it as well. Gamerpoint / Achievement competition is addictive against mates....

But 360 failure rate does seem an issue - 5 mates and myself have a machine, 4 have failed and required repair/replacement. New machines SUPPOSED to be better though.

Got to disagree with that and are you implaying that as I own a 360 and post on here I am a fanboy?? You better not be! You will always get a few plonkers - they are easy to spot though! Alot of people here will give a balanced view. Many people here own both consoles and they will give a balanced view. I think the above posters have proved you wrong though!

Re: Xbox or PS3??

To be fair, both machines have their pros and cons and I tried to point just a few out.

I have both and visit both 360 and PS3 forums but if all you want is a games machine.... 360 wins hands down, by a mile, no contest.

Controller is great compared to the lightweight PS3 and the friends, achievement and online is great.

I'm going to download the Bioshock demo which apparently is pretty special... the PS3 makes do with GRAW 2 and other poor ports at the moment (and yes I know there are games coming, I'm just getting fed up waiting).

Re: Xbox or PS3??

I own both and I can give you a balanced view. If you are a fan of FPS games and quite a hardcore gamer, you must live in cloud cuckoo land to buy a PS3 (at the moment) over a 360.

Developers at the moment are having great difficulty programing for the PS3. Hence why they take so much longer to be released and they are often inferior versions compared to the 360.

If your just a very light gamer and not bothered about having the latest games, I would recommend a PS3, as it makes for good Blu-ray/DVD player.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

I posted this in the other thread, but that one got locked. However, if I was facing this decision I would wait until October/November time. There will be more titles for PS3 on the shelves (Warhawk, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Singstar, Lair etc), Home will hopefully have launched and there will be more solid information on Sony's lineup for Xmas and beyond and quite possibly a price drop. 2008 will be a big year for Sony.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

Ive been sitting on the fence since march When I was going to get a ps3 but due to lack of games thought id wait until GTA IV came out and then get one, but now thats delayed ive ended up ordering a 360 Elite.

My decision was purely based on the better games available and due for imminent release, Ill probably pick a ps3 up next year now and enjoy the 360 in the meantime.

If you can only afford one console at the minute then the best option is to do what shark17 said ^^
If not buy both

Re: Xbox or PS3??

Easiest decision ever. GOTY Bioshock plus the biggest game ever, Halo 3, plus Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Ace Combat 6, etc and all the other great games you haven't played yet (Crackdown, Forza 2, etc). It's all about the games.

It'll be 2008 before I seriously consider a PS3.

Your right i have a ps3 and a 360 and the ps3 hardly ever gets switched on.
The online gameplay on the 360 blows the ps3 away.
As you say its all about the games.
The ps3 build quality is the rolls royce of consoles.
But the 360 is turning out to be the peoples machine same as the ps2 turned out to be.
If i had to sell one off my consoles i am afraid it would have to be the ps3.
Microsoft have got a big lead with the games and its doubtfull if the ps3 will ever catch up.
Loads of devs are writing games for the 360 now and in lots of cases its the lead platform for games.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

i own both and only use the ps3 at the moment for bluray and only have 2 games where as i have 15 360 games, this will change in the future but i love xbox live and have loads of friends to play with on there where as only a few on the ps3. The ps3 is a great machine but the game choice on it just now is poor.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

Got to agree with majority of people on here. I pretty much always play games on my 360, and use my PS3 for movie playing, whether it is upscaled normal dvds or blu-rays.

If all you are after is a games console with great games out at the the moment and for the future, the 360 is the way to go.

If however you want a great console which does loads of other things, and with the promise of great games in the future, get the PS3.

No, I am not implyng that. It's just that these type of discussions have occured many times before and they always degenerate into fanboy comments from a few in particluar.

I own all of the latest consoles too but that has nothing to do with it. Just use the search function and see how many of these type of threads get closed after a few pages...

Re: Xbox or PS3??

I too have both consoles, and I gotta say go for the 360!! Bear in mind this is coming from someone who had a PS1, PS2 then a slim PS2, I used to think I'll never get an XBOX or a 360 but when it came out the adverts and a few of my mates convinced me to get one..............Quite simply the best decision gaming wise I have ever made.

The range and quality of some of the games is superb, prices of games are now coming down aswell and XBOX LIVE!!!!!!! WOW!!!!! Yes it's £40 a year, but it has saved me stacks of cash that would otherwise have been spent down the pub, again I never thought I would get into online gaming as i'm not really that good and have a fairly short fuse when i'm not winning........but now I am online almost every night playing.
The controller takes a bit of gettting used to if all you have used before is a PS2 controller, but now when I pick up my PS3 controller it just feels wrong somehow!!

Reliability has been a problem for some, but now I think it has got better, I'm on my second but only because my first was knocked over whilst running.

Now onto the PS3.........I was soooooo excited when it was delivered on launch day and immediately fired up motorstorm, 3 or 4 hours later my attention started to drift back towards my 360 and to be honest that is how it has stayed ever since, True the PS3 looks SUPERB, the games look AMAZING, but there is the main problem mainly...........lots of the games have already been out on the 360 months earlier, I bought FEAR for PS3 after not playing it on the 360 but it has not come out of the wrapper yet!!

I haven't played a game on my PS3 for about 2 months, the only reason it has been fired-up is to play BLU-RAY movies which also look superb!!

Yes they get shut down, ususally because of one or two idiots -which I stated in my post. However, you can and do get mature, valid and thoughtful comments.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

Threads like this are very useful to someone like me.

The last console I owned was a PS2 several years ago.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a new one now but wasn't sure whether the PS3 or Xbox was the best one for me.

As I'm just after a games machine and have no interest in HD DVD or Blu-Ray then it's clear that the Xbox is the one to go for, based on the comments of most posters.

Yes I agree. This thread is unusally mature for a thread of its type. Its so refreshing to have a non-fanboy thread like this.

I am a Nintendo fan at heart, but I don't own a Wii yet because there's no games for it that I want other than Zelda which I've got for Gamecube anyway. But with the other consoles, I was always a PS1/PS2 fan but this generation I bought a 360 because of how much Sony took the **** with European users and the fact that here was no good games and I still don't like any of the games, I'm waiting for Metal Gear 4 to come out then I'll consider a PS3. But for now I'm loving my 360 and the 30 or so games I've got for it.

Re: Xbox or PS3??

Its Dependant on what you want?

Do you want Blueray and some decent games?

or

do you want the ease of DVD, a massive catalogue of games with some stonking exclusives coming soon, then on top of that the best on line gaming system available with Xbox Live?

Then there is the price. £279 for an Elite (if you know where to look) but mostly its about £300 or £425 for a PS3.

Ive currently got a 360 Premium and have an Elite preordered. Ill wait till well into next year before looking at a PS3, by which time they should be a sensible price and also have some games that i want to play.

Your post pretty well sums up my opinion of both machines (based on what I've read).

Re: Xbox or PS3??

Have a look at like gamespot or IGN for available titles and coming titles then see which one suits you.

I wouldn't listen to any of the reviews on them sites because each person or site has there own ones as such they favour.

But like stated before what do you want it for? and would you rather have the option to pick extras or just get everything in one go like PS3 offers.
