3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

Here's the sequence of events that lead to demise of my 3rd Xbox 360.

1) Switch unit on, browse marketplace, choose to download Gears of War trailer.

2) Come back, find the dashboard has locked up.

3) Reset unit, freezes on startup.

4) Reset again, finally get back in to play the trailer.

5) On playing the trailer the following occurs.

6) On resetting the unit I'm greeted with the following.

So there we have it, goes from working to broke in the space of about fifteen minutes.

Well done Microsoft.

Re: 3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

Are your 360s getting enough air? Are they sitting on a thick carpet? I just don't get how three boxes can break... That's seriously bad luck. Mine is actually in a cupboard (but with some air flow) and it's still running fine.

Re: 3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

There's plenty ventilation around it. Not to mention the case isn't even on it ....

The 1st unit, was similar but took a little longer to go out. First showing garbled colours, then freezing, then red lighting.

The 2nd unit would emit a single beep then crash after about 10 minutes playing.

Now the 3rd unit is showing 3 red lights.

Explain the situation and demand a brand new console, either from MS or the store where it was purchased.

Re: 3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

Thats funny....the same exact thing happen to me.

Downloading the new cinema games of war trailer at 930pm. Then decided to navigate the menus. Then my 360 freezes and screen halts. So I restarted the console then at the 360 logo it freezes. Restarted Then now I get the dreaded flashing red circular light.

This will be my 3rd repair. So it will be on my 4 xbox360 in 11 months.
But this lasted about 7 months. So there is an improvement.

If only I could afford a ps3.

What 30 days? The retailler has to replace or repair within 12 months (sometimes longer depending on the goods). Please read http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact...page24700.html to see what rights you have.

I tried all that over the phone but they just said after 30 days they don't have to replace the console and it is quicker to get it repaired by MS. I did say I was unhappy and I have complained by email, which they have ignored, but they said thats their policy and the back of my receipt confirms it.

Re: 3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

You wont beleave this, I have just had a call from Argos customer services telling me they now agree and I can take my console into my local store for a replacement! Maybe some from there reads these boards!

Hopefully they will let me keep my harddrive.

Write to them explaining that the matter is going to the small claims court. That always does the trick.

Re: 3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

After 30 days they could claim* that they don't have to refund you but they are still responsible for repairing or replacing the unit (or refunding if it is not viable to repair/replace) for at least 12 months** after purchase. The chances are they don't have a system in place to send the units back for repair so they can only offer replacements and as this is not cost effective for them they try and fob customers off to approach Microsoft directly.

*The Sale Of Goods act defines the period as "within a reasonable time"

**Given the value of the product and what could reasonably be expected as its lifecycle (given equivelant products on the market) I would expect you to have a good chance to argue a XBox 360 should last at least 3 years. Arguing this with a retailer would probably neccesitate playing the 'small claims court' hand.

Re: 3rd Xbox 360 failure! Pics within!

I read this thread with interest....

I bought one of the first boxes on release day and I was pleased that it lasted, but then about a month ago turned it on and got the three red lights....

Game where great, yep bring it back we will swap you out a brand new one and whilst at it I got them to change the headset that was playing up.

This is exactly what I expected, within the first 12 months, your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer, I could have got Microsoft to sort it, but I would then have included a third party, when my initial contract was with Game.

Now this gets interesting, as the product isn't cheap, when I spoke to Mircrosoft about these failures, they where quite bolshy about how I would have a problem taking them to court, if my product failed again.....

But I think someone will the sale of good acts, states that items should be of reasonable quality to last upto 6 years and should reasonably do so, therefore Microsoft telling me, well it's £60 for a warranty or a minimum of £60 for a repair, seems a little sort sited by them.... lets see if someone takes them to court after this first 12 months for faulty products.....

Just to add, had an experience with PC World, who seemed only to be interested in directing customers to the manufacturers.... I have a TTG 700 and the fixing braket broke, I have a warranty for accidental damage, so when she turned round and informed me (as she had done the previous customers) to contact TT direct, I promptly told her my contract is with PC World and you will contact them on my behalf and sort it!

I do hate it when shops do not fully understand there contract with customers, no wonder people get into problems.... it's a poor show.

Needless to say, she happened to "find" one in the back, thus avoiding the need to ring TT for me! I was happy with the quick service, but not with her understanding of PC Worlds responsibility!

Rant over !

Cheers

Darren J
