Compatible 1080p tv's

I remember reading an article on ign.com where the editor stated that very few tv's could output proper full 1080p signal from the Xbox 360 HD Compnent cables. He siad that most tv's really only output full 1080p via HDMI connection. I want to know what TV's he was talking about when he said that some of them can ouput full 1080p via Xbox 360 HD Component connection! does anybody know any of these tv models?

Does it definately allow proper 1080p on xbox 360 via component? I just want toi make sure as i read somewhere that the games on Xbox 360 may not be proper 1080p but instead upscaled to 1080p whatever that means?

Re: Compatible 1080p tv's

goodmans gvtl42w15hd also does 1080p via component.

as I understand it and I may not be quite right...upscaling is where a video processor is used to 'interpolate?' the lower definition signal into a higher definition output...i.e. it guesses what colour the intermediary pixels should be. If what you say is true, then 1080p support from the xbox is a con. If its not rendering images into 1080p then it shouldnt be able to claim its games are 1080p.

Re: Compatible 1080p tv's

There is a *cough* Sony 40/46" LCD, the X series iirc that handles 1080p, as well as a 50" Pioneer Plasma, both of which carry premium price tags. IIRC the 42" toshiba LCD and Hitachi 9700's handle 1080p as well for cheaper prices.

As you state above no 360 games are 1080p and the update thats coming will just convert the 1080i signal to a p one. AFAIK Halo3 will be the first game made in 1080p

Re: Compatible 1080p tv's

I think most current panels only do 1080p via the HDMI cable not VGA and not component. However one way to get around this is to buy a amp that converts all input to 1 x HDMI output although not many have a VGA input. Until MS comes out with their solution to outputting a 1080p signal from the XB360 its difficult to know what will be needed.
I doubt very much they’ll get away with a component output due to the HDCP requirements; HDMI would be a great addition if they go down that road. But I’ll we’ll have to wait and see unless anyone know the plan ?

Re: Compatible 1080p tv's

Upscaling isn't a con - my PC upscales Freeview to 720p from PAL and it does an amazing job. Great scalars will give you a picture every bit as good as the original, only bigger.

Having scenes natively rendered at 1080 is a different ballgame, interesting to hear Halo3 will be able to do this.

Shame, I wonder if they will miss the 10Mb or so or RAM they'll lose over rendering at 720?

exactly .....if the game isnt rendered at 1080p then this upgrade is just a BS marketing ploy by M$ to fool public into thinking th graphics are a good as the PS3 which afaik will render 1080p.

its not the display that will be the restricting factor its the source material.

and yes there are a few sets that do 1080p via component, vga, dvi and hdmi... the one I mentioned above does.
