Thumbs down 2nd Xbox 360 back to the repair centre

Sent my first xbox of because of the 3 red led problem. Received my replacement unit. Only problem is it's crap. The DVD drive is a hell of a lot noiser than my last unit, I get headaches when playing games because of the whistling noise it makes. Apparently it's the quiter of the two DVD drives available. The little flap over the usb ports at the front is broken and there sounds like a screw is rattling around inside. Not impressed. Phoned M$ up last night and UPS are picking it up today.

Hope they send me a new unit, but i doubt it.

All 360s have a rattle that sounds like a loose screw! It's the tilt switch which tells the machine if it's horizontal or vertical

Re: 2nd Xbox 360 back to the repair centre

Now, I sympathise with you....ive had 4!!!! different 360s since launch

1st one (nov 05 manufactured) kept freezing on me but no red lights. picked up and then replaced with a second model.

2nd (dec 05 manufactured) one the vga output decided to show me all the colours of the rainbow on the screen aswell as flickering from black to white. Picked up and replaced

3rd one (Jan 06 manufacture) decided it wanted to freeze every ten minutes when playing Oblivion and Burnout, very very annoying. (Picked up replaced)

4th 360 (Nov 05 back to square one oldest of the lot) Has been fine since ive had it fingers x'd but my pad has been going weird since I stuck my HDD one. the light on the pad keps going around in circles, same goes on the 360 at times. Maybe its explainable...

Anyway, moral of the story, spend even more money and but the extended warranty fot it as a call out from MS when out of warranty is £59.99 according to the guy on the phone.

Also, without asking they offered me a 360 title from selection of games as well as a wireless pad. The guy said he was suprised no one had offered me any compensation.

Re: 2nd Xbox 360 back to the repair centre

It's the whistling DVD that gives me a headache or maybe it's because i have to have the TV so loud. I resorted to headphones over the weekend.

I never thought of asking for compo. Doh.

Flashing lights on the controller if it's a wireless means it's about to run out of juice.

How the hell can they charge you £60, when the sales of goods act clearly states that any product you buy should last you at least a reasonable amount of time!.....what do MS class as a reasonable amount of time?.....also whilst i'm on the subject...will i get re-embursed(sp) my xbox live time?? that i have lost on my subscription due to NO fault of my own ....will i **** !!!!!

Re: 2nd Xbox 360 back to the repair centre

reasonable amount of time for most things in the UK is 12months

Most manufactures of mobile phone now show they have faith in their products as they are now covered by a standard 24month warranty which is good.

MS should take a leaf out of their book.

playing games vertical scratches your disks, well maybe not i had mine horizontal with a game in playing however while it was still on playing i moved it to vertical and me turning it from sideways to vertical i heard the disc inside making a mental sound, during the turning action, is that what scratches the discs turning them with a disk in playing from sideway to upgright or does just playing vertical scratch them.

It's the changing from vertical to horizontal whilst the machine is on that scratches the DVD as the DVD wobbles and hits the metal surrounding the laser. There's a video of it happening floating around the net somewhere along with instructions for fitting some rubber buffers to stop it happening again but I'd have though it'd be less hassle to just make sure that the machine was switched off before moving it.

Out of interest why did those of you who sent yours back to MS choose to do so rather than just taking it back to the place of purchase? I'm on my third now and know two other people who have had problems and Game just switched them for new ones on the spot.
