Anyone with a Plasma and Xbox360 please look in...

I've recently bought the new Panasonic px60 (42") and am blown away by the pic quality with all sources including 360. However, there seems to be a small issue with what I can only describe as green ghosting on fast moving high constrast scenes (i.e black/white). check out post #23 on the following thread for some video clips showing the effect: PX60 - Blurring / Green tinge

Now another forum meber (nh3com) tried his 360 on a number of differnet plasma screens instore and noticed the same effect on all (he didn't check the model numbers but he did check on Hitachi, Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic and jvc)

So really I'd like to know from all you plasma owners if you see the effect at all - don't be so quick to say NO as many px60/PV500 owners were adamant they didn't, until they looked carefully for it (it's very easy to overlook IMO).

Good scenes to check on - Far Cry, Ghost Recon, Tomb Raider (the demo level - look at the cliff faces and spin around).

Many thanks for your efforts

Wasn't it concluded in the plasma thread that it was a generic plasma trait...?

well only by 1 person - I'd rather get some more conclusive feedback

I also find it strange that if it is a generic trait, then why hasn't the issue been raised before?

What is the standard lead you get with the 360? my brother bought one a few weeks back and i'm sure he would let me have it on lone for testing purposes .

I have read elsewhere that a green blur is a trait of plasma displays. The only time i have seen the effect though was when watching sin city on dvd - lots of fast moving white on black and even then it was only very slight - nothing compared to what is in those video clips. Haven't experienced it all using my 360.

i have a pv500 and i think that you need to run the plasma in if its new as this makes a hell of a difference, ive used hi def material on mine since i got it and after around 300 hours on the right settings things just improve and the pic becomes more stable in my opinion

Well I've got a PX60 but haven't used my 360 on it yet...

But having seen the posted vids I'll have a test of it tomorrow. Have you tried changing your cable/settings as it may be this that is the source of the problem?

Those vids are mine guys, and to answer a few of the questions I'm using component cable, have tried 1080i and 720p, have tried rgb scart cable, have tried lots of settings including no colour at all, I can't get rid of the green blur ( yes the blur is still green even with colour off!). Hopefully it IS faulty ( never wished for something to be faulty before! ).

I've just watched those clips and it is evident on them.

I've now tried my 360 but it doesn't seem to happen. I'm using a Pioneer PDP505XDE.

Hi there, let's hope we have more success here. But I am still convinced this a known plasma problem. Also because "nh3com" tested the 360 on different plasma screens and they all showed the same effect according to him... I also still think that one does not notice this problem if one hasn't been told about it... That's my theory anyway Please keep us posted if your problem has been solved.

The effect in those videos is far more pronounced than what is evident on my screen - so you may see a much fainter version of it. If you can try the Tomb Raider demo, please do as the cliff-faces at the beginning are quite tell tale if you move whilst looking at them.

Can you also let us know how long you've had your screen and what games you tested it with?

I have rum my PV500 for nearly a year now with xbox hi-def and xbox 360 since launch and I have never noticed this.
There is no point me looking for it as I would have noticed it by now after hunderds of hours.

Hi m8, I've had my Pioneer for about a year and a half. I've tried it on Ghost Recon and PGR3.
I'll have a quick look on Tomb Raider later this evening.

I have it - TH42PX60, about 150 hours viewing. Only noticed it with Tomb Raider so far (only because its been mentioned on these forums, would not have noticed it otherwise). Using Joytech VGA cable.

I don't mean to doubt what you're saying mate, but 2 people have already confirmed this effect is present on their PV500, which makes sense as it's almost identical to its successors the PX60/600 models...

Would you do me a big favour and please check the scene on the tomb raider demo - as I said before, it really is hard to spot unless you're looking for it.

The only other reason I can imagine you don't see it is because your screen was already properly run in by the time you got your 360 - whihc is good news for the rest of us I hope

I have the Panny PW6, whilst I can see green speckling (green dots moving about) on dark areas of the screen as long as I'm about 3 inches from the screen, when looking at it from a reasonable distance (6-8ft away for a 42" screen) blacks look black and I do not notice the effect described by the OP. Neither do I have any ghosting effect noticed by Spadge.

As far as 'running in' my screen, I admit I was really paranoid about this aspect and made sure that my contrast and brightness were -20 on both until 200 hours were past, screen was still perfectly watchable at these settings but once the 200 were up I used a dvd to setup the screen properly and its been like that ever since.

So in short - No - not noticed it before and don't see it now when looking.

Just double checked on my LG 42PX5D just in case I hadn't noticed it before.

Tried Ghost Recon and Tomb Raider as suggested and I'm not getting any ghosting at all.

Hi mate

thanks for checking - couple of questions: 1) how long have u had ur plasma and 2) did you view the example videos posted before you checked? it's not really ghosting as such becuase you don't see it anywhere else apart from those few high contrast scenes I mentioned...

anakin373, quick update for you. I tried the Tomb Raider demo but don't get it on that either.
But be aware, as I mentioned earlier I've had my Pioneer for about a year and a half so it's definately been run in already.

Hi m8

1) Had my plasma for just over two months.

2) Yes, I watched the videos first, then tried it with high contrast scenes.

Thanks for4 all you efforts guys

Just an update - nh3com who took his 360 down to his local store checked it on the following makes: Hitachi, Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic and jvc (unfortunately no model numbers) and found the green edge present on all of them...

I really can't understand why some are seeing them and others are not

I can see it on my PV500, it must have 1000 hours on it, it has been ISF'd and I do see it on the Tomb Raider demo when looking carefully, it is on high contrast areas.
