Video Streaming problems with Media Centre??

Im having some really frustrating problems playing videos on my 360 from my PC. I have one folder in which i keep my videos (d:/MY Videos) and ive added that to the 360 media centre. The folder consists of 25 video files some .avi and some.mpg . For some reason only 10 of the files show up on the 360 and i can only get one of them to play. Iv'e downloaded and used Videora to convert Lost S02E10.avi to Lost S02E10.mpg and they are both in the My Vidoes folder but only the avi version shows on the xbox but of course wont play but there are other .mpg files that show but dont play. The error message i get when i try to play the files is " The file type is not recognisedand cannot be played. Either the correct codec(a file that compresses/decompresses audio or video) is not installed or the file is corrupt.
All the files in the folder play fine on the PC.
So my questions are :-

1.Why are the majority of files not even showing on the 360??

2.Why do the ones that show (avi and mpg) not play??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

It will only play WMV or MPEG-1/2 I believe. The avi's are out of the question; sounds like the ones you converted to MPG are not encoded properly using the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 standard.

You could always give Windows Media Encoder 9 a try.

I use videora for excatly that purpose and find it works fine. I tend to create the converted files into a different folder. Are you sure you are trying to play the mpeg versions?

The mpg versions i create with videora dont even show on the 360. Iv'e even tried putting it in its own folder and then adding the folder in the 360 media centre but when i go to the folder it says no videos exist in this folder.

I can't get videora to keep the correct aspect ratio on the anamorphic widescreen movies I have stored on my PC - got River Past Video Cleaner - does the job superbly. Not the quickest though.

Well I've not seen this. The only problem I get is liip sync issues. Others are using TMPGEnc. How about giving this a go.
