GPU Glitch: Blue dots/lines in dark areas in 720p

Hi, is anyone else having this problem?

Basically, there are these annoying blue dots that appear in dark areas when I watch the videos on the HD, run Halo 2 by emulation, or play Kameo (I haven't tried any other Xbox games and I only have Kameo for 360 atm). I think it also appears on Live Arcade games (e.g. Geometry Wars) but generally they are brighter so I see the problem less.

Here are some example pictures:

This only happens when I set the dashboard to 720p or 1080i, it's fine in 480p.

I'm using a Samsung LE32R41BDX, with firmware I updated to fix the tearing problem reported on the LCD TVs forum.

Does it look like a video card hardware fault to other people, could it be my TV, or am I doing something stupid? Or at least, is anyone else getting it too and can console me..?

I've contacted MS customer support and they say they will ring back in 24 hours, they must be swamped atm.

Cheers,
Dave

Techno,

I got this on my bravia but afetr i checked the components were in correctly as far as i could push them , it was fine and still is in 720p and 1080i

It must be your lead or video input.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I've double-checked my component connections and they're pushed in as far as I'm comfortable doing so (on the telly). It's just weird that it only seems to be 720p and 1080i, not 480p (or PAL). That makes me think it may be the telly at fault, but then again I ran my original Xbox at 720p and never saw it.

Perhaps tomorrow I'll pick up the VGA cable and see if I get any better results.

Cheers,
Dave

Are you sure? How come I never saw it with my Xbox 1?

Edit: I tried viewing some dark scenes in "The Incredibles" (the bit where Mr Incredible is breaking into the island fortress at night, along the monorail) through my progressive scan DVD player at 720p. The picture was fine - no blue dots. So I'm really starting to think it's my Xbox, or (hopefully), the cable.

hmmm problem being that it looks EXACTLY the same as a processing fault that ive seen this particular TV suffer from, although on closer inspection it seems that the Blue dots are around areas that might be Parallax'd/Pixel shaded in the game which would indicate the GPU being at fault..

hard to be that sure..

atleast if MS take it back for repair you will know for sure

Guys, I've done some more testing.

I took my 360 into work and tried it on the HDTV on my desk, still got the same blue dots, so that rules out that TV. I also hunted around for a different component cable, and hooked that up - still blue dots, so that rules out the cable.

It does appear to be the unit, something to do with the GPU or the video scaler (since it appeared fine in 480p).

Hopefully MS will get back to me soon and I can get it repaired or replaced.

Cheers,
Dave
