The international xbox experiment

Right between me and a friend we've got a uk and us console. so we're going to swap around components and games even power supply units to see if pretty much everything is generic. Then test the US unit on live and see if there's any problem.

Will post results tomorrow hopefully

What happens if somehow your console gets banned from Live or buggers up ?

Id wait until at least you knew there was stock to replace it

What makes you think the console will get banned from Live ? There is absolutely no reason for that to happen, especially as US Xbox's work just fine on Live over here. It's only the modded Xbox's that get banned.

So long as the Tx in the PS is able to accept 240v and not only 120v, then there's no reason for it not to work.
Read the label on the PS or in the manual before swapping and powering on blindly.

OK guys results so far

You can swap anything in and out of a US pack and put it on a UK machine and vice versa. The HDD from the US machine works on a UK box, you may want to the region setting(not a necessary requirement).

The good news you can simply use a UK psu on a US xbox. No need to bother with all that stepdown crap. The outputs are identical from both PSUs. Tried it for 2 hours - worked fine. So if you have an import machine start hassling MS for a UK PSU

Live results still pending

That's excellent news, thanks very much

Now to hatch a cunning plan to get MS to give me a power supply...

So you can confirm that a UK power supply unit will work with a USA machine ?

Would a USA power supply unit work with a UK cable on a UK machine or will this blow up the machine ?
