To be honest it's pretty much what I expected - rather vague. I guess one thing to look at is that the best launch in the UK to date is the PSP with 185,000 consoles sold in the UK in the first week. The 360 is £100 more expensive and does not have the Playstation brand behind it therefore I can't see it selling that many. There are around 50,000 360's coming to the UK at launch according to reports and when you consider after the PSP the next biggest seller was the DS with 87,000 in the first week (with all the full size consoles below that - I think it was the Gamecube next with around 75k but at a very cheap price!) then 50,000 will probably satisfy a lot of pre-orders for the 360. I wouldn't expect it to sell anywhere near what the PSP has done and would say that out of all the pre-orders that have been placed there are around 50,000 to 100,000 that are genuine pre-orders with the rest being from mutiple order people.
I really do think that 50,000 should be enough to cater for most pre-orders at least made in August with big companies. Companies like Play & Gameplay are obviously getting pretty small allocations and the likes of GAME are allocating a very small %age of consoles to it's online side but i'd say that if you ordered from the other big players like Amazon, DSG, TRU, Gamestation stores etc early on (in August) and the likes of Woolies (in October when they started pre-orders) then you stand a good chance of getting a launch console.
