Migration Kit problem

I have just received my Migration Kit from Microsoft to transfer my data from my old Premium to the 120GB Elite but I can't seem to get it to work. I followed the instructions and my XBox cannot seem to read the disc. Has anyone else had this problem?
On occasion it has read the disc but treats it as a DVD with the message that I need to put the disc into an XBox console.

I only got the elite a couple of weeks ago and there maybe something wrong with the disc drive as it seems to be a lot louder than my old Premium, especially when running Forza 3. Could be a dodgy drive?

Just wanted to check with everyone before I go through the hassle of exchanging my 360 in case there is a work around. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Assuming you still have your old premium (and it works) will that properly read the disk?

Otherwise try a friends or your last choice will be to try the shop you got it from

Good idea, I had a go at using the old one but i'm still getting the same problem - not being able to read the disc. I guess I can rule out the faulty elite then.

Has anyone come across this before? I could probably put it down to dodgy migration kit but it looks brand new with no scratches on the disc. Might just bite the bullet and lose all my game saves and stuff as it seems too much hassle. Why do Microsoft have to make things so difficult eh!

If there is a problem with it then ring MS, explain it and massively complain asking for a new one to be sent

You could try getting one of ebay and then when you have finished with it put it back on ebay to get your money back.

I found it quicker and easier that way.

I transferred all my game saves onto a memory card from the old HDD, plugged in my 120Gb HDD and copied gamesaves from the memory card. Simples.

I was hoping to borrow a memory card as I think that would have been the simplest thing to do but none of my friends had them. I am also unwilling to spend extortionate amount for such a small memory card. I rang Microsoft in the end and they agreed to send me another kit, but it does mean waiting another 10 days. In the meantime I have asked one of my friends to try the kit on his xbox but I doubt it will work.
I guess I will just wait it out and hope the next one works.
Thanks to everyone for their advice though.
