Re: Next gen xbox, what would you like?

I'd like the exterior to be black this time.

A more reliable build so I don't have to go through several replacements.

Integrated wireless.

No power brick!

That's all I can think of atm.

Re: Next gen xbox, what would you like?

Aside from the obvious (cooler, quieter, more reliable) I don't really see a need to upgrade the current system. There haven't been any huge advances in hardware, aside from faster cpus and pushing more polys.

Maybe dedicated physics hardware?

Re: Next gen xbox, what would you like?

I'd like
  • 1080p games
  • Awesome graphics - imagine COD near-photorealistic
  • Bluray storage medium
  • Bluray playback
  • Lossless audio for gaming as well as films
  • Integrated wireless
  • Large HDD as standard, with ability to upgrade with any HDD up to 2TB
  • Integrated Media Centre with support for all files and formats
  • Web browser
  • Fully customisable dashboard

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, more evolution than revolution. Just enhance the media features, improve the storage medium(s) and better graphics and audio. If it did all this, you'd only need an Xbox and an amp, great one-box solution combining HTPC!

I'd like a multi-disc changer so I don't have to get off my lazy bum and change games

Sounds like a PS3 to me

I'd definately like it to be quieter - was playing GTA last night and the DVD drive was louder than the gunfire!

Re: Next gen xbox, what would you like?

I want them to figure out a way to provide games that can be installed in order to play without the disc. Some sort of one-time install--or perhaps the disc or memory card the game is sold on can be locked to the console immediately the game is installed.

However they do it, I want a jukebox of games without the need for swapping discs.

Same as it is now but more interaction in games like the array camera that should be coming out soon.

It would be so awesome to use a plastic gun to aim in cod.

I'd wager the next Xbox will be digital distribution friendly (that's a no-brainer), if not exclusive. The day of the disc is waning.

A whopping hard drive (1TB?), access to any game you've previously bought on Live, the step to full 1080p on everything, and media content basically akin to a more interactive Sky. I'd expect the partnerships with Sky or similar to become ever stronger, so you wouldn't even need a Sky box anymore as you can do it all on your next Xbox.

Natal will be interesting when it launches next year. If it's a success, expect that to be integrated too. Hand gestured menu navigation etc.

That said, there's no need for a new box yet, it's probably a couple of years off yet (2012 is the rumour I believe).

Re: Next gen xbox, what would you like?

Large hard drive (preferably user upgradable)
Reliabile
Backwards compatible with my 360 games, DLC and controllers (I'm not buying another bunch of plastic instruments!)

Can't see Natal being integrated into the console as the position of the cameras will be critical. Having the console under a TV, in a cabinet, or even in another room will render it more or less useless.

Re: Next gen xbox, what would you like?

- Black & no silly shapes.

- Quiet (although this is so much less of an issue since loading games to the hard drive was enabled).

- A (this time) truly massive hard drive
I'm not too bother about whether SSD or not, just make it genuinely 'massive'.....sorry but the Elite's 120gb is no my idea of massive at all, even the Super Elite's 250gb is hardly that big these days.

- I don't care about built-in wi-fi, I prefer a wired connection, but I guess it is handy for some.

- I expect the next gen of games will be truly 1080p native, not upscaled.

- I totally agree about doing away with the video codec restrictions & the ability to handle at least Dolby Digital Plus & DTS @ 1.5mbps would be nice if we can't have lossless.

- If DX11 is going to be 'it' in the PC world of gaming then I guess some sort of combi CPU/GPU capable of running that is going to be a must too.

What would i like?

- direct brain/neural cortex input/output. This would allow total immersion, totally real sound and graphics, direct skill feedback for controls. It would also eliminate a lot of wire clutter, and you'd obviously not need a TV/amp/speakers

- stable OS, which is fully user-customisable, and no adverts if you pay for LIVE.

- better tracking of cheaters/glitchers/griefers. Once found (logged from their records and thoughts of said neural data) they could be given direct brain shock aversion-therapy to make them less annoying. Or at least you'd know they get karma back for each time they annoy you.

- ability to decide which regions of the geographic world you'd like to play with when online. eg: you could ban all americans from any games you play online, choose to allow dutch but not french etc etc. Maybe allow regional banning too, so you could exclude people who cant speak the Queens English like those from Liverpool and EDIT: Ireland (not Scotland) which are totally indecipherable due to their accent.

- as you're playing in your brain, a nominal charge for virtual alcohol hits, then you could pick your drunkness without having to leave your chair.

- premium content, like an interactive Megan Fox desktop, should be reasonably priced at current worldwide exchange rates. It's digital so stop ripping off one region over another.

- pirates could just be killed outright when they connect to live; as they have to plug their brains in, MS could just zap those who are detected to be pirating. Break the Terms of Service at your risk!

hmmm... probably some more, but that's what i'd like

I'm expecting (and hoping for)

Slicker, better manufacturing and hopefully less noise

1080p graphics with the requsite increase in CPU and ram

GPU accelerated physics

No physical medium, broadband only for games purchase and play. No more swapping discs. I suspect they will love to do this as it stops pirating and selling of old games

No power brick would be nice

like.
Forget regional banning, why not have automatic grouping, so that when you connect to xbox live, you are linked to people of the same mindset and type as yourself.

you would be assigned to the group labeled "PRICKS"

I hope not! Optical media is here to stay for a while yet! Some PS3 games fill up a whole 25gb Blu-ray, so imagine the size of next gen games! 30-40gb?

Christ i'll die of old age trying to download one of them on my 1.7mbps SKY BB!
Not to mention SKY sending me a letter saying i've gone over my 2GB monthly limit!!!

Hard media wont get replaced in anywhere like the near future. Yeah it's nice to have a game jukebox, but what about the people who don't have fast connections, like myself 5 miles from the exchange on 1.3 meg, it's just not practical. Or even worse, for people who don't even have broadband, there are some areas in the UK that cant get it don't forget.

Digital distribution certainly does have a big future, but I don't think it'll ever be the only format. For it to rival the ease of popping down the local video store, getting a film and putting it on your player, speeds would have to be a hell of a lot faster than they are now.

I'd be more inclined to say optical media will get replaced by flash media, when it becomes more viable. Pop along to rent or buy a game or movie on a SDHC or whatever card, slot it into your games console/movie box and off you go.

FLAC and OGG support.

WAVE support brought back (The NXE removed the existing uncompressed WAVE support)

FF / RW BUTTONS ON THE MUSIC PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PULEEASE!

MKV support (because they refuse to acknowledge Blu Ray.. short sighted because they could steal Sony's customer base by making a Blu Ray add on or integrating it) I could have bought a PS3 , But I have stuck with MS and bought a separate Blu Ray Player! How 'bout some payback Microsoft?

MAKE HALO PLAY ON VGA!!!!!!

as previously mentioned,

I would like to see it in black, not to mention all the accessories in black, intergrated wireless, no power brick, capable of playing blu-rays, quieter, more reliable, 1080p games.

Most importantly a massive hard drive capable of transfering games to it and play without the disk in the drive. Every game could have a code which you apply to your account to stop multiple users installing from one disk. Or maybe an option similar to steam where you can purchase on your account and can only play games purchased on your account.

That in itself is an advancement.

The next gen has to bring 1080p native resolution and 60fps with aa, and vsync standard.
