Controller not charging

Strange one this!
My wireless pad doesn't hold it's charge, and when I plug it in, I don't even get the red / green light on the play and charge kit (the cable does flash green once then goes off). The controller is usable though when it's plugged in, which indicates that it's not a dodgy port or cable.

First port of call is the battery, tried a new one which is the same!
Second would be the pad itself, bought a new one, same problem!
Thirdly would be the play and charge cable, but guess what; just bought a new one and it's the same!

Are the USB outs on my 360 not working properly? I have tried all four, no difference.
The only other thing I can think of trying is another battery, just in case by some freak chance the one I bought was duff (it was second hand to be fair), although I don't want to waste more money if this isn't the cause of the problem.

Edit: I should probably mention that this is a launch console that was sent back for repair with the RROD about a year ago. I'm not sure what they changed in it to be honest (though I did notice they'd changed the disc drive).

Re: Controller not charging

Did this behaviour start after installing the new update by any chance? Theres a thread in the hardware section I think about the same thing. I'll see if I can dig up a link

EDIT: Here you go: Play and Charge Kit not working properly (Help!)

Not sure if any fix has been found though.

Re: Controller not charging

D'oh! Yes, displaying the same behaviour as some of the others in the thread.
Think I'll just vote with my wallet and buy some rechargeable batteries!
