A little advise would be sweet!

Hi guys!

I'm thinking of get myself an Xbox Elite real soon, I can get just the console on it's own for £163 delivered. But am also looking in to bundles.

Are you able to buy games online via Xbox live and download them for a third of the retail price? This sounds mad to me, but I heard it somewhere.

Also, what is a 'Jasper'? I have seen this term used a lot on here, but can't seem to find a definition.

Lastly, are there any other benefits of having an Elite over the arcade, other than the HDMI out?

Many thanks as always!

D~

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

the games that are the same as the ones you can buy in the shop and download are all old and cost £19.99 so no good deals there BUT then there are the "arcade" games that cost MS points which you can't buy in shops and they are totally different, you have to buy MS points from a shop or online and pay for stuff like that.
Jasper is just the name of the latest chipset, I think all the consoles use this now. It is the same as the others but less likely to get RROD.
Check out the £199 deals at gamestation for the xbox and 2 good games, eg. Fight Night, COD, Tiger.

The elite and arcade are exactly the same console apart from one is black and one is white, elite comes with a hard drive

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

Think probably what you heard is Live version games are a third more for old games than what you can get in the shops.

No benefits to the Elite, both Arcades and Elites have HDMI, only difference is one is white, and other black and one comes with onboard memory the other a hard drive. Many prefer the Arcade due to the onboard memory and then buy a separate hard drive to get best of both worlds.

Jasper is Xbox360 models manufactuered after the end of 2008.

If you find a 2009 manufacturerd console you should be safely assured you are getting one.

The Jasper is the model with 65nm GPU, it is the model to go for above all else IMHO, go to Gamestation to get some help on buying as they are supportive and will likely look at the box to be sure.

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

Ah! I thought the Arade didn't have a HMDI out.

Are there any decent games that you guys recommend? just to get me started.

A mate of mine told me to look out for Forza 3 in October and Max Payne 3 this winter; sadly it would seem that Max Payne 3 has been put back until next year, which sucks ass.. loved the first two!

Was any of the Metal Gear games released for the 360?

Cheers!

Call of Duty.

Buy this first, then consider everything else second.

The first Metal Gear solid game comes out end of November BTW.

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

If you like quick dip-in, dip-out action then the arcade games are a must! But the points will eat through your bank balance like noones business. I hate to think how much I've spent on points over the years... And how little I've played some of the games (TMNT I'm looking at you!) Lol

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

Check out this recent thread. It lists AVF members top 100 games.

http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-...ce-thread.html

I'd also add Batman Arkham Asylum quite near the top of this list (sadly this game wasn't released until voting had finished).

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

If you've been pointed towards forza 3, try out forza 2 first as it can be picked up for about £7 these days. Other brilliant driving games that can be picked up cheap to start you off are pgr4 and burnout paradise
If you like shooters you can't really go wrong with any Gears of war or call of duty game or halo 3

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

Games all depend on which genres you prefer. Personal taste plays a massive part too. Most games nowadays have playable demos via live.

As an example, i hate CoD5 but can't get enough of Sacred 2. I also find Far Cry 2 to be the most enjoyable multiplayer shooter.

I'm sure the majority on here would disagree!

Which Metal Gear is this? I have not heard of any being released on the 360 aside from Metal Gear Raiden, which is not due for a loooong time. A year away at the earliest.

Re: A little advise would be sweet!

A few game is have & love playing myself and online are GTA IV. Brillaint on your own and even better online. James Bond: Quantum Of Solace is quite a good game also and again even better online. Call of duty 4 is a must. Excellent online play as well there. Batman: Arkham Asylum is also very good to play. Let4Dead is another brilliant game and the onlin play on that game is utter class too. Resident Evil 5 i have really enjoyed as well. Fallout 3 is good as well but you will need patience to get into this game as you start as a new born baby then grow up. If you keep at this game you will enjoy it. Brothers in arms: Hells highway is a good game too as is Battlefield: Bad Company. Farcry 2 is another game i have played a few times and again i think this is a good game. If you like your football games then FIFA 09 (i would wait for FIFA 10 to come out though) is the best footy game out for me.

It really depends what type of game your into really.

Could be, all I am basing what I said by was that I had looked recently at Play.coms future 360 releases. And it was up for a release in November

Play.com (UK) : Metal Gear Solid: Rising : Xbox 360 - Free Delivery

Metal Gear Solid: Rising
Due for release on 27/11/2009

I've mainly had Playstations in the past, though have dabbled with the Dreamcast and first Xbox.

I like racing games, but nothing too serious; Ridge Racer, Need For Speed or maybe Gran Tourismo! I would really like to see what Forza 3 and Dirt 2 are like.

I used to love first person shooters, but when I got my PS3 80gb a few years ago, it came with Resistance: Fall of Man (what a pile of sh~t) & that kinda put me off; it was as if things were going backwards.

I really enjoyed both of the Max Payne games, Metal Gear & the early Resident Evils. I think one of my favorite games of all time had to be Manhunt, kinda brings the nutter out in ya!lol Was it ever released for the 360? If it was, is there any chance that number 2 will be?

I'm in to footy games, well only Pro Evolution; I can't stand FIFA, I don't think it's necessarly a bad game, I just like the look and feel of Pro Evo much more.
