gamertag recovery problem

Hi all,

I got a 360 at launch and signed up to xbox live. I then sold my 360 soon after but at the weekend purchased another one. Last nite i tried to recover my old gamertag but couldnt remember the last 4 digits of my credit card. I remember the email address/password though that i signed up with so logged into xbox live via the web. Although it logs me in it takes me to the "welcome to xbox live screen" where i have to choose a gamertag and select my pic/gamer zone. I am confused as to why its asking me for this when i had already done this originally?. When i input my gamertag it comes up with a message saying this is already taken. Any ideas on how i can fix this?.

Re: gamertag recovery problem

I didn't think part of the recovery process included your card details - I thought all you needed was the gamertag, email & password.

You may have picked the wrong option on xbox.com and selected the new member button rather than the "already a member" option below it.

If you go onto the 360 and recover the profile, it should only ask you for the gamertag, email and password - once you've done that you should be away but will have to go into settings and enter the email as your windows live ID so xbox.com doesn't give you any grief...

Re: gamertag recovery problem

To recover my tag i pressed the xbox button and then selected recover gamertag (not much too it). It then asks you to provide quite alot of info one of which is the last 4 digits of the card you signed up with. Being a few years ago i cant remember what card i used and wouldnt even have it now as have had new cards issued.

Re signing into xbox live i only clicked on signin and then input my email and password which it accepted. Certainly havent started a new user login. Think i might have to give microsoft a call

Re: gamertag recovery problem

They'll probably tell you to start a new tag.

I had the same problem when I first got a 360, I signed up on the original xbox to download some DLC for PGR2, I wasn't able to get access to it from the 360

Re: gamertag recovery problem

Try clicking "my xbox" in the top right of the webpage rather than "sign in". See if that helps.
