Angry XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

I'm desperate to find somebody who can help my son get his XBox 360 'talking' to our Belkin-routed wireless network - used to work, but now only when hard wired to the modem. Not an XBox problem, the console works fine. Does anybody have a clue where we can start to identify the problem?

Many thanks.

Re: XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

Firstly i'd plug the xbox 360 network adapter in the back of your xbox, then go to configure network in the network menu under the systems tab and click search for networks (if you're not already connected) and see if the xbox picks up your home wireless network

If it does, you MAY need a wep kep - depending on how the wifi is set up on your router
* Some routers require you to click a button on the router its self to put it into pairing mode

If your xbox doesn't pick it up then it'll be a setting on your router (usually visibility or if wifi is actually enabled or not)
Access your router on a computer wired up to it and change the wifi settings to whatever you think they need to be

There are too many variables to list solutions to really without knowing exactly what the problem is or where you get to before encountering the problem

More info would help
E.g does your xbox pick up the home network?
Is it a problem with nat?
Is it connected to the network but not the internet
What happens on the xbox live test - where does it get to before it pops up with an error

Things like that

Re: XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

Hello

I'm having a similar issue. My wireless was working fine even when I had two PC's and the Xbox running at the same time. Now the xbox will not even recognize my network, somehow it picks up my neighbor at one bar but not the linksys router in my house. As far as I know nothing has changed in the router settings, anyone else experience this problem?

Thanks

Re: XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

Check the light on the wireless dongle when the 360 and router are on and see what colour it is. Green means it's working, red means waiting for connection, flashing red means hardware fault and no light means it's not fitted correctly to the console.

You may need to enter the network settings again on the 360. I think somewhere on the 360's network section it allows you to run a test of the connection. An update on either the router or the 360 may have altered a setting that needs correcting.

Also you have tried resetting the router (obvious but it doesn't hurt to ask) as mine is always randomly kicking things off the network.

Not advisable to remove security on your router, it then becomes available to others to use your connection, and on the off-chance they are doing anything dodgy, it would be you under investigation.

If WPA2 isn't supported, then downgrade to WPA, but don't switch it off altogether.

Totally agreed, but just knocking it off for troubleshooting would be okay

reset your router if it has a hole at the back (usually a pin will do it , connect all computers , laptops and of course the xbox 360 to the wireless network (the 360 adapter will work now ) after everything is connected to your network then secure your router .

Each computer , adapters will be disconnected from the network so you can re-connect where you will be prompted for the new passkey

Re: XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

I found a suggestion to set the router to WEP instead of WPA. Once I made this change and entered the passcode everything worked fine. Still not sure why it crapped out on the WPA setting. Is WEP a decent security since you need a passcode to connect?

Thanks for the advice!

Re: XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

WPA is better than WEP I believe, someone could quite easily get around WEP if they tried, WPA is harder. Better WEP than nothing at all though.

It's not advisable to use WEP unless absolutely necessary as it is pretty easy to crack. It's better to use WPA.

Re: XBox360 wireless network connection help needed

I saw another post around here that mentioned the WPA 2 may not be compatible with xbox 360 wireless, any truth to that. My system was set to WPA 2.
