About to buy Sharkoon V3's, In Game Chat?

Just wondered if anyone knew if the XBL ingame chat is good on this headset? Don't want to spend all that money to find out I can't hear anyone while playing COD4 (as I found out with rubbish Skull Candy ones), can anyone please confirm??

I've seen this mentioned a few times but doesn't appear to have been answered, i asked it myself earlier but thought maybe best to do a thread specific to this question as a few have asked it.....plus i want to buy them soon as if they're confirmed as having good chat volume...so it's a shameless self promoting thread...

tl/dr - can you hear people with these on xbl while explosions are going off in cod4

Cheers

Never heard of these so cant comment. Maybe worth checking out the headset thread to see what everyone prefers.

Found this Sharkoon 5.1 v3 Headset dont know if this helps, could PM the memebrs that have purchased.

I like these ...

Turtle Beach Announces Ear Force X41 Xbox 360 Headset

Enhancements in the X41 over the original X4 model include:

* The X4 analog infrared wireless signal has been replaced with digital 2.4 GHz RF wireless technology, for low-latency, uncompressed, CD-quality sound with no background hiss, no interference from plasma TV screens and no line of sight restrictions between the transmitter and headset.
* The X41 uses the latest version of Dolby technology to support game sound in 7.1 channels instead of 5.1 channels, for improved surround sound accuracy.
* Dolby Pro Logic has been upgraded to Dolby Pro Logic® IIx.
* The X41 transmitter includes a headphone jack and volume control for an additional wired headset, so a second player can hear the same Dolby surround sound that’s being transmitted to the X41 wireless headset.
* The X41 transmitter is powered by a USB port on the XBOX or nearby PC, Mac or laptop, so gamers will have one less power adapter to worry about. This is especially convenient when using it overseas, since it eliminates the need for special power adapter plugs.
* A new “battery booster” circuit in the headset extends battery life for up to 25 hours and assures that the sound quality will stay crisp and clear until the batteries are completely drained. Optional rechargeable batteries can be used in place of alkaline batteries.
* The velvet ear cushions used on the X4 have been replaced with rich, soft, fabric mesh cushions that let your ears breathe, for added comfort during long gaming sessions.

Although primarily designed for XBOX 360 gaming, the Ear Force X41 is compatible with other gaming consoles (note that the integrated microphone works only with the 360) and can also be used as a home-theater accessory for enjoying DVDs in Dolby surround sound, watching TV or listening to music.
The Ear Force X41 headset has an MSRP of $199.95 and will be available at Best Buy and other major US retailers in September, and from the Turtle Beach web site Turtle Beach - Video Gaming Headsets, USB, and PCI Sound Cards. Turtle Beach Ear Force headsets are distributed in Europe by Mad Catz

Check out my post for some comments on the headset

I have the v2 and v3 of these headphones, only use the v2 though, in game chat isn't a problem, if you struggle to hear the voices you can just turn down the game volume ingame and turn your headphones up, or with sharkoons you have individual speaker volumes, just turn up the centre speaker volume which all voice is played through.

You don't need hdmi because you use an optical cable, and plug this into the component cable, the bit that plugs in the xbox, there should be a black hole for it, pretty sure they are on every xbox.

As for sharkoon or trittons, they are the same headphones, or used to be when v2 sharkoons were out. Not seen any other trittons so can't comment.

Re: About to buy Sharkoon V3's, In Game Chat?

this is what the instructions say in the online manual:

Connect the optical cable (remove protective caps!) to the optical audio output of your
Xbox / Xbox 360 and the SCU’s optical audio input.

Prob best to buy a new composite cable, because it doesn't look like you have got a optical out in the on you have now

Re: About to buy Sharkoon V3's, In Game Chat?

thanks mate, the setup instructions for the AXPRO state:

'5. Plug one end of optical cable (H) into rear of Xbox360
a. Must have one of the following:
i. High Defi nition AV cable
ii. HD Audio dongle (Xbox360’s with HDMI output only)'

and i've just ordered a standard AV-S cable with optical output.....i won't be able to use the AXPRO then will i? as it requires HD?

Re: About to buy Sharkoon V3's, In Game Chat?

The arcade doesn't come with optical out. I found this out myself but just borrowed a HD cable from a friend using HDMI.
The HD has the 3 standard connections and another 3 for the HD part. So yes you can buy the HD AV cable
Now i need the HDMI one than comes with the optical out part.
Damn microsoft!

The av cable with optical out will be the same as the dongle. HD doesn't make any difference to the sound, not at all connected. You just need an optical out for 5.1

Pretty much identical discussion is going on in this thread:

Decent Headphones for Xbox 360 *Part 2*

To try and avert more duplication, I'll close this one, feel free to continue in there.
