Xbox 360, sides cut of with HD

Hey, so i have a xbox 360 (the white one) connected to my hitachi 42PD7200 with a HD component cable. The cable is set to HD instead of tv to get the best picture. The xbox 360 is set to 1080i which is the best my tv can do. But when i play halo 3 on it the sides are cut off? any one know why? how can I fix this problem?

That's overscan, particularly common with Halo 3.

I'm guessing the TV isn't 1080p, so you would probably be best setting the console to output 720p, this should reduce overscan.
