Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

So its officially out today and a few of us have already got copies. Played through the group stages of the Champions League last night with Villa. Agbonlahor is an absolute demon with pace to buuuurn. Sailed through the group stages on Normal doing the double over Barca They obviously hadn't heard of the mighty "west midlands village"
For me its no way as good looking as FIFA but until EA patch FIFAs really annoying bugs I am gonna crack on enjoying PES10. Didn't mess about with too much skills last night but got some really nice passing moves going. I had Milner tear down the wing and knock cross back from the by line to the edge of the area. Big John Carew wallopped a diving header past Valdes......was quaaaality

Now the servers are up anyone fancying a few matches should feel free to fire me an FR.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

I picked mine up last night, as I mentioned in the preview thread the game seems pretty tidy to me and feels to me more responsive than FIFA 10. I prefer the simpler approach to the controls/skills too, it's nice to be able to beat a defender with pure pace....

Online seems pretty bad at the moment, I had about 1 second of input lag for 70 minutes of my first game, which made the game utterly unplayable

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Hmmm,
I got this today as I'd heard the reviews were saying it was back to its best.

However, if online is still crap I don't wanna open it as I'll be taking it back!!!

Can anyone confirm how it's playing and if it is worth opening it? All my mates seem to have fifa now...

I'll play something else and check back!

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Myself and Kop played some online matches this morning on both Pro Evo and then FIFA. There were no obvious increase or decrease in lag between either game. Everything ran smoothly. Considering he beat me in every game I would love to come on here and say the game engines broke on both games

Thanks mate.

You've played both in quick succession - what is your honest opinion on what's best, Steve?

I wonder if ASDA will take it back if it's opened...

If you're interested in my opinion fella, purely in terms of the game engine, I'm favouring Pro Evo - FIFA makes it too difficult to get round players and shooting still feels scripted (plus decent long-range shots seem rare), whereas in Pro Evo quick players can tear defenders to bits for pace and shooting/finishing is much more reliable, after a few hours play I'm already a fairly confident finisher.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Cheers Gunbuster.

See, that's the way I felt with FIFA 09 too. It just seems....scripted. Even though apparently PES is much more so?!?

I still think PES6 is the greatest online footy game I've ever played. The next two were awful! I've been playing PES2008 for a bit to boost G's...man it's bad.

How could they mess up so bad after a promising, though flawed, start to next gen with PES6?

If online works on this, I'm sold. I've said that the last two years though.....

FIFA 09 was awful for scripting....10 is definitely feels less so, shooting aside which feels highly scripted.

I re-bought Pro Evo 6 recently from HMV as it was £3, and to me it feels closer to that than 2008/2009, so you might well find yourself pleased with your purchase.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Got this today, online is following on in the great Pro Evo tradition of being kn*ckered from day one.

You press a button and a second later it does what you ask, apart from that though it's good

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Haven't been online yet, as I thought it'll be bad to start with, just hope it'll smooth its self out in a day or two..

Currently doing a Master League with Espanyol, as the Spanish league has a few more licensed teams then the prem, and I don't really like the Italian league (fully licensed). I've been into the edit mode and changed all the prem team names to what they should be and also changed the few Spanish teams that aren't the proper names..

You need to play this game on Top Player as well to get the best games

Will hit online in a few days..

The 1 second pause thing only seems to happen when you play someone witha poor connection.
It has happened to me twice and is chronic! Horrific!
As said only twice out of about 12 games?

The lobby system is confusing and IT lags never mind the game!!!

What I find frustrating is that when you set up a quick match, a challenger is said to have a good green conx-but when you agree to te match, in the next screen he drops to red! And the game is a farce. And te only way to get out is go to dashboard from the preparation game an slowly load it all again.

Similar in the lobby-I apparently have a green connx, join a room and we both have yellow for medium...

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Right.... I am and always have been a PES die hard, not through any fanboyism rubbish, but simply because it was lightyears ahead for so long and was so good that the new game became as relevant in the calendar as a birthday or Chritmas, ie never missed.....

I have accepted Fifa has improved massively over the last couple of years, but let's face it, it needed to, and so many of it's "new features" year on year were things PES did long before, which speaks volumes i guess.

Anyway, as a rational gamer i gave fifa 09 demo a go and didn't like it at all. This year i picked up Fifa 10 for £25 knowig i could get my money back trade if i didn't like it and get PES again. I must admit fifa 10 is very polished and a good football game in so many ways, but let down in a couple of key areas... Shooting is weak and unrealistic, as is crossing, which seems very unreliable against the command you give... same for corners - hardly ever get on the end of one let alone score. And don't start me on manager mode - no instructions to what's what, transfer section with no true way to sort the player lists etc and it becomes a chore to say the leaset.

So got PES 2010 and started in training mode for a bit and thought it was excellent and loving it again.... but then when i played a couple of games i was left a bit deflated... Some things seem great and pure PES, but the most annoying thing for me was when the opposition seem intent on passing it back and around their back 4 so often. This in itself wouldn't be a major issue, but when so frequent it's like playing online where someone goes 1-0 up and does it loads, ie very tedious and annoying....

To be fair i haven't had enough to make a proper judgement, so will give it more of a bash later, and really hope it clicks. Maybe that was something the international teams i was playing against are prone to do so not a true reflection, but we'll see.

I love the sound of the additions to ML, which for me is the single player aspect of any game that has eaten up most of my life over the various versions. The extras should make it even better, which is really good. Youth team, real money, sponsorship, specific training attributes for different players, introduction of euro cups etc etc... Will give it a go and report back. For me ML always seemed to play better than standard matches or cups etc anyway... i don't know why, but it just does on every version i've played.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

To be fair I had a few more games late last night by setting up a match lobby and then only playing people with orange/green connections and all the games were lag free

Loving the game though, you can score some cracking goals. Beat someone 1-0 and they reported me for unsporting conduct! (and sent me a message to let me know) just because I kept booting the ball away for the last 10 mins! What does he expect!

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Well along with alot of people been a pro evo nut since the old iss pro on snes (aka baggio ponytail) Have to say been disappointed last couple of years and went over to the darkside(Fifa) So glad i rented this yesterday and did'nt buy, keepers are well flakey, when your through on goal they dont seem to know weather to rush out or stay on their line, i like when you lob the goalie on fifa they make a mad dash to claw the ball off the line..... they just dont move fluid in this version, also very easy to score from range, got long ranger achievment in 2nd match! Another thing I know its all about gameplay with pro evo but I so wish they had all the licences for the clubs, you get hyped up for the Champions League final with all the music and stuff and out come Manchester United and LONDON FC!! Crossing and heading seem better mind and graphics are amazing but for me Fifa wins hands down again this year. All in all I just wish Konami do a Infinity Ward and go away for 2 or 3 years and bring out a proper Pro Evo we all deserve, hell stick next gen graphics on a port of PRO EVO 5 and im there!

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Bought it yesterday, it plays OK but nothing compared to old, my 4th game I put it on top player (Everton vs Chelsea) and won, barely a shot on goal from Chelsea.

I think the Wii with the classic controller may be the weapon of choice this year again.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Got this yesterday and I have played about 15 games online so far without any lag involved so quite impressed there!

However Im not impressed with the button lag in the game, there is a slight delay in which I press the button and the move on screen happens a few milliseconds later. I have gave away so many penalties with this as I press B to clear the ball from my area and it registers as a tackle on screen thus commiting a foul

Graphically its superb but konami need to sort out the button lag asap!!

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Ok played some more games now and it has grown more on me, but i have a major issue, and that is the fact they have the new "Slider" system and i now don't appear to be able to do Manual attack and defence levels.... even with sliders, why remove this.....

Also some of the sliders, although set to offensive my forwards and attacking midfielders were retreating and i felt there was nothin i could do about it... really annoyed me. Example being at one point Rooney attack level (icon next to name with 5 coloured boxes, say 5 attacking, 1 defensive) was at 2.....***. I couldn;t manually change this and i never in the history of PES have ever had my players lower than their starting mid level (ie green / 3), so why being forced to now.

If these problems weren't here i could get my team playing as i want.

Also, no movement directions can be set for off the ball runs... again why!!!

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

got this today and on my second game now, not very impressed so far.

after playing fifa 10 for quite a bit then having a go on this, my first impression passing the ball around and moving was "MAN this is awful" it feels like an old not-much-effort game instead of a proper contender to fifa. although im only 2 games in and it might grow on me, but im fifa all the way.

also, i know the likenesses are muc improved etc but how come the players have a black line around them? the graphics remind me of crackdown in that way

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Right have sussed the attack / defence levels now. TO get them to manual, you also have to go into assisted settings (i think it is) and push the slider to off for attack awareness (or something like that)... i'd already turned off the Tactics slider so i have control of the face key tactic options, and assumed that would give me manual on ATT/ DEf levels also, but it didn't, but the above does.

Still can't do the direction arrors though as far as i know... anyone know if it's possible?

IT's growing on me more now... main issue is the reaction of your players when the oppos get the ball is to retreat backwards (often turning and running away without even watching the ball , which looks ridiculous). This means before you can press and try to tackle, there's another 5 yards to make up and the oppos fiz the ball around so quickly (even naff teams....???) meaning you chase shadows more than you would in past games. PLus the whols pressure aspect seems to be restricted so you hardly actaully challenge them for the ball at all, compared to them being able to get it off you relatively easilly in the same scenario.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

how come its so hard to get the ball off the opposition? and it never passes to the player i want it to which then leads to the other team getting the ball easy and passing along the back 4 when you close em down. easy gamerpoints though!

That's where they've messed it up imo.... you can't press like before, and combined with the lack of tactical instuction, the players by default fall back away from the player before he receives the ball, and by the time you get to him it;s been passed... then repeat the cycle. Frustrating.

Re: Pro Evolution Soccer 2010: Play and Help

Yeah they do seem a little robotic. Got it yesterday and played a few games last night. got some good paasages of play and some decent goals, but theres one or two things i dont see why they havnt changed.

1- Commentry, still some stuff in there from 08!!!!
2- When the ball is going out of play..they just let it, on fifa they slide to try and keep it in, cant be that hard to add in im sure!
3- Players kicking the ball away for you, before u have chance to do anything about it
4- I have never seen so many corner, the ball seems to just go out for another 3 corners before you finally clear one

Other than those little things at the minute seems pretty reasonable.

one other thing in my master league, I had £256,000,000 to spend??
