Re: Forza or shift

There is simply no comparison, I was playing Forza 3 last night, trying to hold back the tears, was simply brilliant, NFSS on the other hand IMO, is just another racer.
If you like your racing deep and challenging, then Forza, If you want shallow and handling issues, then NFSS.
NFSS looks brilliant though, this is what I thought till I had seen Forza, my jaw dropped..
I am no Forza Fan boi, I have barely played it, but man oh man, I doubt I will see the light of day for awhile..

There is simply no comparison between the 2 games..

Forza 3 is the new GT and when GT5 comes out, who knows, it still might be...

Re: Forza or shift

I bought an Elite about 2 months ago, with NFS-S... therefore, i had no choice.

NFS-S is a very decent game. Initially there are problems with sensitive steering and this is the games minor flaw. But a simple adjustment to the driving settings in options fixes this.

Gameplay i find is awesome, thoroughly enjoyable and the game is massive. Cars are nicely distinguishable e.g. you can tell the different between rear wheel drive and cars with different torque etc. Track layout is also excellent. They did a great job mapping the circuits accurately.

The game is pretty close to being a sim which means you really do have to pick your braking points and control the throttle coming out of corners, especially in rear wheel drive / high horsepower cars, or you will spin out. But as you might find, to get good lap times you have to stick to the racing line and hit the apex's etc and without setting up your steering this is hard. Now this might not appeal to quite a lot of people. Sims are like marmite, look at operation flashpoint DR. Also drifting is insanely hard but once you crack it, its awesome.

All in all, i've enjoyed the game a lot, SP and MP. I keep going back to it, its a great racing game and the in car visuals are great.

Now because i love racing games i played the forza 3 demo, all cars in the demo on the same circuit. Personally i found the game a little numb. The action isn't as "knife edge" a NFS-S and i think it is like this because on NFS-S the feedback is a lot more pronounced. For example the tyre noise is phenomenal when taking corners at high speed. Overtaking can feel quite aggressive whilst on forza 3 you just sort of float by and the game feels like its going at a slower pace if you know what i mean.

Also with assists you can literally press the accelerator and not take your finger off even on the slowest corners, the computer does it all for you which i just dont understand.

Also im not sure on the physics of forza. For example, even in a rear wheel drive ferarri, if you take the corner too quickly and put the power down you seem to understeer???? You should be spinning out.

Now to be fair i haven't played the full game and forza is an epic title on the xbox so you can let others review it. It seems more arcady which might be more your thing.

Re: Forza or shift

OK an update and I will make this as unbiased as possible...
An opinion will always have bias..
This game is great if you can allow for the graphic blemishes...
A, aliasing like you would not believe, I had this at 720 P, too much and it hurt my eyes, 1080 P seem to fix this..
B, stupid shadows of opponents cars seem to be solid then take on a makeshift shadow, unfinished as I see.
C, in cockpit view, unplayable as the driver seems to turn very little and you, by watching his feed back, seems unplayable, I play with bonnet view, a shame as in car was good.
D, colors seem to be way to vibrant, I have turn down my panel to accommodate for this.
E, (not really a graphic issue but this is the end) when you change car views, sound remains the same, unrealistic.

Now for the game, seems a some what floatie game, but, as if you have ever played GT5P, this kills it, quite easy..
It is the closest racing game I have ever played, my settings as follows.

Auto braking : OFF
Anti-lock brakes : ON
stability control : OFF
traction control : OFF
shifting : AUTO
suggested line : OFF
Opponent difficulty : MEDIUM
damage etc : SIMULATION

I am in the zone with this game and am climbing up through the ranks...
1 thing that pisses me off, stupid rewind button...
I have used it, early in races, it should not be a feature, if you crash or go off the track, tuff titties...
No get out of jail free card...
AI is brilliant, some reall good racing to be had here, they made GT5 on the Xbox, brilliant...
will keep me busy till GT5 comes out..

This compared to NFSS, (I have finished NFSS) fulfills my for now gaming requirements, the sensation of speed is spot on, and it is soooo fluid, NFSS is a hack and fluke game, and does not convey the thrill of racing as F3 does...
As I said, I have tried to keep this as unbiased as possible, I have played many a car game, and this is as close to the real thing on the Sexbox ATM, if it just wasn't for that stupid rewind..

EDIT:

Holy crap I just spent 160 K on my Maserati, i am scared of driving now, all I can say is wow...
I hadn't done an u/g to any car than an auto 1, this has handling plus now... Woo hooo....

I might change the difficulty to hard as i blew the opponents away at the 1st corner LOL

Re: Forza or shift

I have to say that I way prefer Shift. I was very disappointed with Forza, just seems so boring in comparison.

I am a bit gutted. Was so looking forward to Forza.
