Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

Quote:
Innovative DJ Hero Game Expected To Transform How Consumers Engage with Music * New Guitar Hero 5, DJ Hero and Band Hero Expand the Category with Fun-to-Play Experiences and Innovative New Technologies and Features * Autumn Slate Delivers Largest Variety of Music and Hottest Artists

Thursday 7th May/... Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) is set to once again revolutionise how consumers interact with music by releasing three new titles this fall – DJ Hero™, Guitar Hero® 5 and Band Hero™ – that will redefine the company’s popular music gaming platform. The slate will transform the way consumers enjoy and engage with music by offering the largest variety of music genres, innovative technologies and new social entertainment experiences for existing fans and millions of new consumers who previously have not joined Guitar Hero’s global community of fans.

• The company’s groundbreaking DJ Hero expands Guitar Hero’s signature social gaming to all-new consumers with the addition of diverse music genres including hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. Introducing an all-new innovative turntable controller, DJ Hero transforms players into DJs who rule the club scene by creating original mixes of popular songs and music from the world’s most exciting artists and DJs.

• Letting fans continue to fulfill their rock fantasies, Guitar Hero 5 features the hottest rock and roll artists today as well as classic rock bands and gives players an unprecedented level of control over the way they play the game with the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly.

• The franchises’ first E10+ rated console game, Band Hero delivers an exciting music collection featuring top-40 hits designed to expand the experience to a new genre and appeal to a broad family audience who can play together on the guitar, drums, bass and microphone. The game builds upon Guitar Hero’s easy-to-play, difficult-to-master signature gameplay and allows novice players and expert fans to join together on their favourite songs.

“Guitar Hero has made music social again and has become one of the most popular ways to experience music,” said Dan Rosensweig, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Guitar Hero franchise. “Today’s fans enjoy a variety of music and are looking for more ways to engage with their favourite songs, artists and fellow fans. These games will let them listen, participate and socialize with music in ways they have never been able to before.
Talk about overkill!

You know i think Activision & Neversoft actually enjoy running popular franchises into the ground, poor old Tony Hawk died in vain...

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

id be interested to have a go at DJ Hero I must admit. All depends on how it works and how many more plastic instrument peripherals i have to buy.

No suprises that there will be a GH5 and band hero looks like its going to try and do what lego rock band is trying to do and appeal to the pre-teen/family market.

These 3 titles I have no issue with and were fully expected. The overkill is GH:M, GH:SH and GH:VH all within the space of what... 6 months!!!

More than 1 title per year, maybe 2 at a push just makes no sense to me. They haven't got the time to innovate or even ensure the game they put out is good. Look at GH:WT (although GH:M is a bit more polished)

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

So, are Guitar Hero Greatest Hits, and Guitar Hero 5 technically different, or are they the same?

And whats so different between Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero? You can change 'instruments' in GH5 according to the PR, so it cant be a guitar only game, so whats the point?

Overkill is spot on guns!

nice to see them adding something completely new to Band Hero that you couldn't do in any of the previous games.

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

Band Hero is going to be a more child-friendly version of GH in that it will feature Top 40 pop songs. Think of Lego Rock Band = Band Hero.

Guitar Hero 5 will be the next iteration of the Guitar Hero platform so I full expect WT DLC to be forwards compatible. Whether they have a disc export option is something else though.

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

If producing Band Hero with it's pop setlist means GH5 is more orientated towards the the types of rock tracks from GH2 and GH3 that originally made it popular then so much the better - it means the whole Band Hero game can be avoided like the plague and we might get some good tunes again in GH5

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

Some info on DJ Hero from GameInformer:

Quote:
Developed by Freestyle games.

1-2 players.

Turntable has two parts, the "platter" for the disc is the largest piece, it has three buttons on it, green, red and blue. The second piece, which is detachable to enable lefty mode, includes the face and directional buttons, a Euphoria button, an effects dial, and a crossfader.

Only three "scrolling" tracks, the outside two must be used with the crossfader in order to work.

Each track slides left and right to indicate the crossfader's direction.

Playing consistently will build up the Rewind Meter, which can be used to send the song back to an earlier section.

The tracks have up or down arrows showing which way to scratch the disc, and occasionally an X will be shown, letting the player scratch in either direction.

Tracks will have an overlay in some parts of a song, giving a player an opportunity to use the effects dial.

The Euphoria button is used to trigger Star Power.

Most of the game's songs will be unlocked at the beginning.

Freestyle microphone input is supported.

10 songs will support duet play with a guitar controller.

RRP announced for DJ Hero

£107.99

HMV are selling it for £99.99.

Found some songs too

1.Gorllaz: Feel Good Inc.
2.Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers: Bustin' Loose
3.David Bowie: Let's Dance
4.Jurassic 5: Jayou
5.Tears for Fears: Shout
6.Gwen Stefani: Hollaback Girl
7.Nirvana: All Apologies
8.Benny Benassi: Satisfaction
9.Beastie Boys: Sabatoge
10.Eminem: My Name Is
11.Marvin Gaye: I Heard it Through the Grapevine
12.The Zombies: Time of the Season
13.KRS-One: Jack of Spades
14.Herbie Hancock: Rockit
15.Eric Prydz: Pjanoo
16.Rick James: Give it to Me Baby (Harminder Dhanjal, Silent Source?)
17.Rick James : Give it to Me Baby (DJ Shadow)
18.Foo Fighters: Monkey Wrench
19.Jay-Z: Izzo (H.O.V.A.)

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

I posted this earlier in the DJ Hero Preview thread.....

Having seen this, I'm really warming to this game now......

The confirmed track list has also grown:

David Bowie - "Lets Dance" vs. KRS-1 - "Jack Of Spades"
Nirvana - "All Apologies" vs. Rick James - "Give It To Me"
Zombies - "Time Of The Season" vs. Chuck Brown - "Bustin Loose"
Grandmaster Flash - "Here Comes My DJ" vs. Gary Numan - "Cars"
Herbie Hancock - "Rockit" vs. N.E.R.D. - "Lapdance"
Jay Z - "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" vs. Eminem - "My Name Is"
Marvin Gaye - "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" vs. Gorillaz - "Feel Good Inc"
Dizzee Rascal - "Fix Up, Look Sharp' vs. Justice - "Genesis"
Gwen Stefani - "Hollaback Girl' vs. Rick James - "Give It To Me"
Jurassic 5 - "Jayou" vs. Herbie Hancock - "Rockit"
Tears for Fears - "Shout' vs. Eric Prydz - "Pjanoo (Radio Edit)"
Black Eyed Peas - "Boom Boom Pow' vs. Benni Benassi - "Satisfaction"
Beastie Boys - "Sabotage" vs. Foo Fighters - "Monkey Wrench"

If you're mad about Grandmaster Flash, then you might like to throw OXM a few questions as they'll be interviewing him soon.
Linkage.

I does make me titter that Activision have a beef with Sony over PS3 pricing, yet don't think twice about their own ridiculous pricing.

Seriously i'm reading thru that list, and it's like all the stuff i avoided when i was young. Ok there are a few i would play voluntarily, and some i'd play if forced, but most are just pap of all that was wrong with the music industry.

Can't wait for Sub Pop stuff to come out the Rock Band Network - we need balance vs this atrocity!

EDIT: just realised what this set list is; it's the Wii version of music lists. "Inoffensive" to the mainstream, designed to be as broadly appealing to grandma, mom & pops, and little Jonny and Suzie. Probably sell loads of copies, as they'll all be buying it for each other, play two songs and then be forgotten next to their Balance Board... As i said, shoot me now.

Re: Activision announces DJ hero, Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero

pass from me. Probably 2 songs i would want to play (there are a couple of others but there already in RB)

Dont know how some of those songs will even translate to a music game. Alphabeat and spice girls Do they even have guitar in them.

The difference between this setlist and what we've seen of Lego Rock Band is night and day. You can have kid friendly songs without alienating every other audience, which is a balance that Neversoft have completely failed at.
