Ironically, I don't think Ride the Lightning is in the game.

It should be prepare to Ride the Lightning... and go download it for Rock Band.

Re: Guitar Hero:Metallica Demo on live now!

Nice surprise, queued up ready for when I pop home at lunch time

Four songs in the demo apparently:
  1. No Excuses - Alice In Chains
  2. Sad But True - Metallica
  3. Seek & Destroy - Metallica
  4. Stone Cold Crazy - Queen

Wonder if this will come out on the PS3 store too?

Love 'No Excuses' - one of my all time fave songs.

Getting this game on the PS3 next week

Cool. I can practice that on vocals on then (as there is a score achievement related to it).

It was reported that the metallica game will be the first game to utilise the lips mics, so there a slight chance, needs testing.

Re: Guitar Hero:Metallica Demo on live now!

Wow! Its superb!

Could only do the singing as I have all the kit for the PS3, but the mic works on both consoles.

Nice presentation etc, which is fine. Did 'No Excuses' first, which (apart from a slightly changed score layout and some new effects) was pretty much GHWT with standard (random) musicians.

But wow... wait till you see 'Sad But True' in motion.

Firstly, the models are superb... all the mo-cap stuff is spot on - lots of actions and little touches (like toward the end of SBT, it goes quiet before kicking in again and the camera points at James who does a 'Ssshhh' before playing on... and James does all the fist-pumping between each strum in certain parts of the song. Lars leans back when hitting the snare etc - just spot on!).

But when the song hits loud beats, the whole screen shakes - its just quality and really sucks you into the atmosphere. Like the new 'steadycam' shots on stage that show you more of the action up close.

I was looking forward to this, but half expecting GHWT with some new songs and a Metallica skin, but they've done the business and now I cannot wait to get stuck in!

Just so it's clear for other users, there is no difference in the mic hardware in any of the GH:WT bundles (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii or PS2) and they will work on any platform.

Apparantly the mic is just a rebadged Logitech - which when sold seperately says on the box "works for 360/PS3/Wii"

I used my PS3 GHWT mic and it worked fine on the 360.

Will try the Lips one later too.

Re: Guitar Hero:Metallica Demo on live now!

I haven't tried full band but they've improved the HUD for single player guitar, now you can finally tell what star you are on throughout the song. It's so great but so frustrating at the same time, next week I want to buy the new Queen tracks but now the game you play it on is outdated and inferior. Stupid, stupid Activision, you seemingly make a great game and yet you still find a way to alienate people who want to buy your products.

Re: Guitar Hero:Metallica Demo on live now!

Pretty good fun to me. I was scared the drums would be too chuffing hard, but it was great fun. Managed all the tracks on hard difficulty and they were ok.

I have a question though. I have been concentrating all my drumming efforts on Rock Band and hence have not played drums on any GHWT type game to date. I am using the Ion drum set, and noticed I stored up all my star power but couldnt work out how to activate it with the drums! Anyone have any ideas, as I fear this could be the way it compresses the drum score for rock band style 4 pad drums. Either that or I'm being a numpty...

I have the Rock Band drums for this game and there is a way of doing it, but I only managed to do it on a free style section and I don't know what I hit. Maybe someone can enlighten me also?

Re: Guitar Hero:Metallica Demo on live now!

Gave this a go last night. Not really a Metal-licker fan (but then i wasn't an Aerosmith fan either...), but found the two tracks here more enjoyable than Battery on Rock Band 2. Made me wonder, which would be the better example of the other Metallica tracks on the disc: Sad But True/Seek & Destroy or Battery?

Not sure i'd really fancy singing any of theirs, though, which made me pine a little for the ol' 'guitar only' Guitar Hero days. I know i can just ignore all the band stuff, but what a waste of tasty gamerpoints that would be!

Also, a bit but the 'uncanny valley' versions of the original Guitar Hero rockers just seem a bit wrong: Lars isn't fat enough, Judy's missing her punky vibe, Axel seems less of a meathead... The Metallica guys look fine, but the Guitar Hero guys and gals looked better in their more charactictured days, i reckon.

Re: Guitar Hero:Metallica Demo on live now!

Well I have a new favourite song on drums. I LOVE Sad But True, especially the "DA DA-DA-DA-DA" before each verse and "Sad But True". Something I've always air drummed!

I'm really looking forward to this now. If ever there was a band who was perfect for GH/RB I would say it's Metallica, especially the Black album. Personally, it's my favourite Metallica album by a long way and I much prefer it to the faster thrashier stuff like Battery. I think the setlist for this game is pretty much bang on and wipes the floor with GH: Aerosmith (who I love).

I really like the presentation as well, lots of great little touches, It looks like Neversoft have learnt their lesson from GH: A and got a winner on their hands. Though I have to admit I'm not so keen on some of the other songs................ at all.
