Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

Eurogamer have an interesting story up:

The game is coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, and is due to launch before the end of the year.

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

I was just reading about this myself and instantly shouted 'blatant cash-in!' at my screen, until I got to the 'full band versions' part....then my interest perked up a bit.

This has the potential to be awesome and if it has a master of Free Bird, I'm so buying it.

Did I just defend Activision's milking of this franchise a bit there?

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

I recently got rid of my PS2 GH gear (the PS2 itself will follow them shortly), so this is a potentially welcome release for me.

I guess it all comes down to the tracklist (hopefully there will be some tracks from Rocks The 80s too).

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

I think this has the potential to be pretty good, in previous GHs there have been songs that i have wanted to play drums along to for example, will keep an eye on it.

Im torn between saying what a great idea this is and Activision you bunch of money grabbing ******** talk about milking it!

If they pick the right songs this has the potential to be pretty good. Personally id love to play freebird, knights of cydonia, cult of personality, killing in the name and dare i say raining blood on drums.

That sent a shiver down my spine

Freebird (5 mins of tamborine tapping for the singer!!), Sweet Child of Mine, Knights of Cydonia are my top three. Just got to hope they pick decent songs!

Ditto. If they give us 50 songs they already had the masters to, then i call milking. If they give us 120 songs, including the good songs that were previously covers, then maybe they're finally going to throw a bone to long-time fans?

I'm certainly interested in this, as it means i could dump two old GH1/2 plastic guitars, and put the PS2 into longer term storage, but i do hope they put in some of the excellent bonus songs from the GH1/2.

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

Before I forget and Stricken would be awesome!!

AND Bark at the moon!! Oh man, I'm actually quite excited by this, although after a quick bash on GH:WT the other day, I'm finding the drumming FAR less superior than I initially thought compared to rock band. It just doesnt come close!

Although, they could just put everyone out of their misery and let Rock band have all these songs as DLC or in RB3, at least that way we'd get to play them on a decent format!!!

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

Seems this will be with us alot sooner than expected, this June!

Nice two page article at IGN here (thanks to Spidey987 for the heads up):
IGN: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits Revealed

Including this snippet revealing some of the tracks included
Quote:
IGN: Which songs made the cut?

Paul Gadbois: You'll be happy to know that the final setlist includes 48 master tracks from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and we are announcing eight of them today. So here it goes:

"Them Bones" by Alice in Chains, Queen's "Killer Queen," "Nothin' But A Good Time" by Poison, Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the Name," "I Wanna Rock" by Twisted Sister, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts's "I Love Rock N Roll," Heart's "Barracuda." … oh and Guitar Hero III favorite Dragonforce's "Through the Fire and Flames!"
Can't wait myself.

PS, right thread finally!

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

Cool, there were some great songs on the original GH (Cowboys from Hell, Iron Man, Fat Lip, Ace of Spades) that were meant to be released as DLC for GHII. I bought Stellar and a couple of others, but It'd be nice to finally get to play the others.

I do hope they are holding back announcing the big songs like Free Bird, Sweet child etc. As I find that list to be rather meh.

There were 4 packs of 3 songs for GH2 with GH1 songs I believe. I got one with I Wanna Be Sedated, Smoke on the Water and You've Got Another Thing Coming, just for I Wanna Be Sedated as I liked it from one of the Burnout game soundtracks

Me too. Although to be fair there are still 40 tracks to be announced. If Free Bird isn't there though alot of people are not going to be happy, myself included.

Yeah, they originally intended to release the whole of GH1 as DLC, but the fuss that kicked off over the DLC prices killed that idea.

I bought the Stellar/Higher Ground/Killer Queen pack.

Given that Sweet Home Alabama is on GH:WT and Tuesday's Gone is on GH:M, I would be amazed if Free Bird didn't make it onto GH:GH.

Not only that, Free Bird was THE most popular track on GH2 (apart from Jordan but that doesn't count) and Lynyrd Skynyrd's most well known song. If it doesn't make it on Greatest Hits, it'll be a travesty.

oh, and none of this Live recordings crap either, I want a master studio recording

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

So long as Acti dont stray too far from HMX's charts this should be a good game. Especially the GH1 tracks which on expert had a virtually unplayable hopo system. I remember just strumming everything until GH2 came along and made hopo's more intuitive (and fun!!). Freebird is a definite as activision i'm sure have licensed Lynrd songs. But TTFAF, why?

Not sure on that one, I would love to have the version from the Old Grey Whistle test performance, solo on that is epic.

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the amount of songs this game will be having is really small?! I thought that given theres been 6 band-less incarnatins of the game (GH1, GH2, GH3, GH:80's, GH:Aerosmith & GH: On tour to name but a few) there'd be more like 70-80 tracks available! As it is the already announced ones are remarkably uninspiring!

Make it happen NeverSoft or lose us forever.....

They're only taking from 4 of them (GH1, GH2, GH3 + GH:80s)

.... Most of which had a good 60+ tracks on didnt they?! It just seems its a low number when you consider some of the craching tracks they had, makes me think theres bound to be some tripe in there too, so what classics arent we getting? I wouldnt mind betting a lot of 'original' recordings are lost forever...

Main setlist, not including bonus songs:

GH1 = 30 songs
GH2 = 40 songs (48 on the 360)
GH:80s = 30 songs

Re: Guitar Hero Greatest Hits on the way

I was actually quite looking forward to this (which suprises me as im normally anti GH) until i read the article.

You cant import songs into world tour and downloaded songs wont work (oh except the completely useless GH tunes songs) = fail.

That said, ill probably still buy it if the set list is half decent. Killing in the name is nearly enough for me to warrant purchasing it. If they throw in Knights of Cydonia and Freebird that will tip me over the edge.
