Drums - Dead Zone

I have just got some sound dampners to make my drums less noisy, (thanks for the link), but before I put them on could someone answer a question about the drums for me?

My drums (beatles kit of that makes a difference) will only register a hit if I hit the small dark circle in the middle. All of the white sections (most of the drum pads) are totally dead. Is this the way it is meant to be? Or could they be faulty?

Makes it hard to drum sometimes, not I have advanced away from the red and yellow only!

Cheers

Re: Drums - Dead Zone

Sounds broken to me. On the RB1 drums I was able to register a hit on the whole pad. Surely it would be very difficult to play a song section like the chorus on Teen Age Riot only hitting the centre of the pads. The precision required would be insane. I even find myself hitting the sides of the Ion pads.

Definitely faulty, my Beatles drums are sensitive right to the rim
