U2 keen to appear in own Rock Band game

Great news for me but Im sure not for everybody. Theyve certainly got the catalogue to support it.

U2 keen to appear in own Rock Band game | Eurogamer

For those behind firewalls:

The members of popular beat combo U2 have said they would quite like to appear in a music game after all, actually.

They considered such a move about a year ago but later decided against it. "We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren't what we wanted," bassist Adam Clayton told USA Today.

"That could change. I love the idea that that’s where people are getting music, and we’d love to be in that world. We'll figure something out."

By the sounds of things, Bono, The Edge etc. have been inspired by the work of John, Paul, Ringo and so on.

"What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what we’re interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation," Clayton said. "We didn’t want to be caricatured." Goodness no, who would take your giant pink sunglasses and names like The Edge seriously then?

Didn't i say in the Beatles thread how some bands think they're "too big" to be clumped in with the masses?

Personally i wouldn't want a standalone U2 game which couldn't be imported, either DLC trackpack it, or throw them in with the filthy masses so my goth-queen-punk can be Bono or Teh Edge, or have them playing drums to grunge and metal

Whatever happened to the humble boys from Dublin...

Can I just add to the communal hatred for all things Bono, Edge and U2 related.

I would seriously have to consider if I would even pick any of their stuff up as free DLC let alone pay for any

As a rule, I take no pleasure in seeing other creatures suffer. However, taking pleasure in seeing Bono suffer would be the exception that proves the rule

I would lap up everything up till after Achtung Baby, then after that just a selection of a few tracks off each album.

Would love the entire Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby albums.

I have Beatles RB, which I love btw, but really don't like the idea of stand alone versions for bands unless tracks can be imported.

I will be getting DLC for the Beatles game, but certain it would actually sell far better if it was DLC for the main game (I guess I am right to think it can't be D/L to RB2?) which would be where a lot of the money is.

The genre would be better if it was coming togethor more, rather than fragmenting further.

For the record - I would never get this. In fact I think the only stand alone I would buy now would be the Rolling Stones

i feel ashamed to admit i actually quite like U2 now

Ill buy DLC possibly buy a AC/DC style track pack but they can poke it if they think ill buy a standalone beatles style game.

Guys we get it - you don't like U2 now stop banging on about it!

Any major band will go to great lengths to protect their image so I see nothing wrong with U2's approach.

Ive never seen such negativity in one thread before. Im sure there are many people out there who dont care for The Beatles either but I dont recall people going out of their way to bash them.
If you have no interest in the game that is fine and entirely your decision but why visit a thread for a game you have no interest in and reduce it to what is bound to end up as a simple tit for tat exchange?

Indeed. When it comes to milking franchises, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. are in a league of there own. U2 are no different, of course, however just because they express an interest (rather than being approached

) they get chastised.

I'd love standalone Muse; Radiohead; QotSA however understand that others may not like them as groups. Surely, at the end of the day it all comes down to musical preferences, not whether you think somebody is a

....or maybe the arrogance of them not wanting to be lumped with the other DLC has annoyed me a bit. The Beatles were a one-off and they deserved a game of their own. U2 don't, there's nothing special about their music.

Oh wait, you've edited adding a whole extra section. As I said right from the off I can fully appreciate that U2 arent everybody's thang but in the late 80's for several years they were the biggest band on the planet and still sell out stadia world wide.

Ok theres quite a few negative comments but does it matter.
Its just an idea for a game at the moment.

Looks like Rock Band fans are not as keen to purchase a standalone U2 game.

Its not like the game is coming out next week and everyone has jumped into the thread saying it sucks and dont buy it because its U2.

I used to be a U2 fan but now i really dont like the band and especially Bono and his god given right to tell the world how to live and to save 3rd world children and give all your money away to save the children.

Off Bono and spare your own cash i have paid nearly £200 to come see you guys sing now shut up about giving money to poorer people...i'm skint after paying for this ticket now SING BITCHES

Who knows how many times they or others (inc. the Beatles) have been approached for their own game?
