Why three cymbals

What is the advantage of having three cymbals? The two that I have on the Ions make the same sound as the relevant pads and they seem to do the job reasonably well.
So how does the third cymbal fit in?

Re: Why three cymbals

generally on a drum kit you will have a hi-hat cymbal (represented by yellow), a ride cymbal (represented by blue) and at least one crash cymbal (represented by green).

The advantage of having 3 cymbals on your IONs is that you can play hi-hat crash and ride notes on the correct cymbal rather than having to hit a pad for one cymbal. Plus its way more fun

I have 4 cymbals (2 green crash cymbals. one on the left one on the right) and i want another one for when you have to hit a green and yellow crash at the same time but sadly there isnt enough room on the rack.

Re: Why three cymbals

I feel really gormless! How do you fit those in? You only have four outlets plus bass pedal. Do you have an adapter of something.
BTW I got the Mapex pedal that you use and my four rx8.
I have a CY8 cymbal. Is there any way to fit this in?
I have one kick box for the pedal. Would I have to get another one for the cymbal?

The ions have 7 outlets + bass pedal ie 1 spare for the additional cymbal.

Re: Why three cymbals

plus you can run a MONO splitter on the cymbal ports (or tom ports for that matter) to double up your crash if you want.

Re: Why three cymbals

Are you saying that you can increase the number of sounds available? At the moment I have four pads and two cymbals and a pedal, but there are still only five sounds.
Cymbals only repeat the pad sound.

Re: Why three cymbals

If you go to freestyle or during a RB2 drum fill, then the cymbals should make a different noise to the tom of the same colour. ie:

Yellow tom = Boom
Yellow cymbal = chick
Blue tom = BooM
Blue cymbal = chish
Green tom = BOOM
Green cymbal = CHISH
Kick = DUM
Red snare = snare

They should all be marginally different.

Re: Why three cymbals

Right. I understand that. I knew about the freestyle but not about the RB2 fills.
