Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

Anyone know if any shops are doing a good trade in.

GH:WT for GH5.

Trying to get my head around the importable songs from GH:WT.

Read this
Quote:
The transfer process requires the player to enter a unique code from the World Tour or Smash Hits manual to access the ability to redownload all available songs as a pack
So do you actually have to own GH:WT to enter the code AND also pay to import the WT tracks?

So you can't do the old trick of rent GH:SH, pay to import songs? As you need the unique code from the GH:SH manual?

Can anyone confirm this?

Also do you need the GH:WT disc to import the songs or are they all downloaded via live with just the code from the manual?

(where is everyone today? Its a release day thread and nothing for 1:30 hrs!)

Correct.

Again, correct. This has been known for some time though, so it shouldn't really be much of a shock now. Presumably, Activision have done this to avoid the rent-and-export loophole of RB1.

I haven't done the importing myself, but it does ask you for the manual code as soon as you start the process (I got that far before realising that I didn't want to download the tracks just yet).
Quote:

All you need is a GHWT or GH:GH manual with an un-used owner ID on it. The disc has no involvement in the process.

Right i guess thats the main bit i wanted to know.

Not gonna trade in just now then, i'll keep GH:WT, rent GH5, then if its worth the upgrade, i'll import.

Then i can sell GH:WT, and maybe try get GH:SH on the cheap.

I just like to have as many song as poss, all accessible from 1 disc.

Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

Played last nght, liking it a lot so far, but as with all these games, it really depends if the content is what you like. Currently just doing the import from WT, actually its not an import, its a download of 1.27Gb

/edit.... reading up on the website, the WT songs (or other imports) get treated exactly the same as the songs that come with the game. So you just have an extra 35 tracks to go at, 120 tracks all together excluding any other dlc you may have

Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

Mine was waiting when I got home...haven't played yet. Busy installing it to the hard drive. I got the exclusive Game bundle. The guitar is very similar to the WT one, but for some reason just feels nicer. The strum bar is kinda rubbery now, and better than my WT one...which has always squeaked.
Also, I got two free Rolling Stones tracks from Game, but I intend to buy the full track pack, so I will give my two free tracks to the first person who replies to this thread.

I love it so far The new party feature is good if you have a few people over and just want to play and not worry about failing the song. It will either play random songs or you can setup a playlist.

My fav thought is the new Rockfest mode in multiplayer. I like the way they've done the Career mode this time too, you get little challenges added onto the songs, like get a streak of either 50, 100 or 200 notes and if you complete get extra stars. You don't have to do the challenges though.

Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

Hmmm...played 2 songs got 5 achievements...not sure I like that. Haven't played career mode yet...got other things to do still. I do however still prefer my RB2 and Beatles RB at the moment. Technically I should not be playing this yet though...my birthday is next week and Beatles RB or GH5 is one of my presents...so I'll probably end up putting GH5 away for a few more days.

It's a bit of a novelty having my avatar playing guitar. Don't know how long I'll keep that.

GH:WT Import is 280 points and a 1.27GB download...even on my 50MB connection it's crawling though.

Smash Hits is 160 points and 697MB download.

They are available to buy on the store....they are two tracks from the Rolling Stones pack...Prodigal Son (Live) and You Gotta Move (Live)

I just noticed that singing is more like RB now...looks like they realised how bad the singing was in WT.

Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

curious to know whether anyone thinks the playback is a bit lacklustre?

playing 'Hungry like the wolf' GH5 version against Rock band 2 .... the latter has more grunt, better instrument separation etc etc
Tried numerous audio tweaks (dolby on/off - instrument volume +/-) and it still sounds a bit flat to me (through my AV system)

thoughts??

Yep, totally flat for me compared to RB2. I play it through a high end AV receiver and it sounds "muddy". I have had worse though LOL

The vocal interface is more like RB, but it's still laughably strict on Expert and it's often difficult to tell exactly where the "ball" is, especially in Starpower where it appears to get obscured by a giant star (?!).

Presumably, the Activision's lawyers advised that an arrow would make the interface too similar to RB?

Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

I've only played through 3 or 4 songs on quickplay on GH5 so far but the thing that stands out the most is that the interface looks like it was designed by a school kid compared to the cleanness of RB. I'll be giving this game more of a blast tonight but it'll clearly remain my secondary band game

i agree too, tried playing sex on fire on both of them and RB2 was more enjoyable, the crowd singing along definately helps. GH5 is a good game though

Re: Guitar Hero 5: Play & Help

put in a few hours in this and so far its the best guitar hero neversoft have made. still not good enough to topple rockband but i have to give neversoft credit for the improvements made. Finally the character anmation look pretty good with some great camera angles and mo-cap. I also like the use of motion blur and filtering.

The note charts are clear enough tho i'm so used to RB's notes its hard to make out how fast to strum at times. As for the charting itself, i'm gonna reserve judgement till i've played most of the tracks. the drums are better than ghwt but the same problem crops up as before with hihat rolls and snare, pretty much game breaking for expert drummers if you ask me.

with regards to the tracklist, there are more songs i dont recognise in gh5 than in any other guitar/band rythm game yet. While it allways nice to come accross an unheard before classic but its also reassuring to have a healthy selection of known classics too. Surely the rythm game genre hasnt exhausted all its mega rock songs allready has it?

I get the feeling activision are predicting the end of the GH gravy train and as such have reduced the budget for these games (whilst at the same time squeezing out every last dime) hence the poor track list and non-existant advertising. its a shame as it looks as though neversoft have improved enough to make the series good again
