Keyboard to Ion

I have a Yamaha PSR2000 midi keyboard which has fantastic drum sounds on it. Does anybody know if it is possible to link the two together, please?

Re: Keyboard to Ion

I'm sure you could, but why? I suppose you could program in the songs for an easy Bladder of Steel, as surely the tracks wont work as "Keyboard Hero"?

But should work the same way; buy a MIDI converter, ie: GHWT MIDI controller, ION box, hack a RB2 module, SethBox etc, Keyboard outputs MIDI -> box converts -> console registers note.

EDIT: just saw on "wife hates my kicking" thread you have IONs, you'll have to ask on of the others as i havent had any experience with the IONs sorry.

"I'm sure you could, but why"

Because it has about 100 different drum sounds on it.

Re: Keyboard to Ion

you may be able to link them together outside of the game (no idea how though im afraid) Unless the keyboard accepts a midi input signal I doubt it would work though and you would need some kind of midi interface like the GH drums if it does accept midi input. Midi output is no use to you as the drums output a signal already and wont be able to translate it to anything. (my electronics knowledge is rather limited but im pretty confident what im saying is correct)

There is no way you would be able to link it in game to get the drum sounds from the keyboard to work in the game though im afraid. Your stuck with the rubbish sounds for fills and freestyle mode.

Ive never understood why they cant just have the correct sounds in the fills as they have already sepreated the tracks. I.e if you playing a song by say nirvana, and you hit the snare in a fill, it sounds the same as the snare Mr Grohl is playing in the song. Mind you, id rather they got rid of the drum fills completely.

Re: Keyboard to Ion

Thanks for the replies. I'm a bit happier now as I've read the manual (at last!) and realised that there are several setups for freestyle play.

Sorry i'm a little confused obviously; are you wanting to play the drum tracks with your keyboard, or use your drums to trigger sounds from your keyboard?

Maybe i got the wrong end of Teh Stick?

Re: Keyboard to Ion

Each drum pad sends a discrete MIDI note, so providing you could map 5 keys on the keyboard (or 6 for GH:WT) to the required MIDI notes, and can run MIDI out from the keyboard into a GH:WT drum controller, it should be possible.

I don't think I'd fancy trying to play it though.
