Noise Woes

"My mum was singing "shut the %$£" up" earlier, doesnt seem to be in the game?"

Hi, I'm new here. I was browsing and read the above and haven't stopped laughing. It's simlar to my situation, only substitute wife for mum.
I have the ion drum kit and my problem is with the kick pedal. I don't have a carpet in my games room. (The wife decided I didn't need one). Every time I use the kick pedal, it sounds like someone's firing a canon close by.
Every morning, the wife takes our neighbour's dog out for a walk and I get an hour or two to play my drums without her moaning about the canon.
I've been trying to figure out a way to get this period extended, but without any success. First idea was to buy her a dog so that she had two to take out, but then I thought she'd probably take them both out together. Then I considered converting my tv to a louder output, and not using earphones, so she could listen to the music instead. Unfortunately, she vetoed this idea.
I was on the verge of considering divorce, but had a brainwave. I told her that I was going to buy a proper drum set, so that she could hear what drums really sound like. She's promised to come back to me on that one.
I'm hopeful, but divorce is still an option. Either that or get rid of Rockband. No, Rockband definately stays.

Re: Noise Woes

Well that an interesting idea

If you can't have carpet in the room, can you at least put a small offcut under the pedal? Or maybe a rug that's big enough for the whole kit to sit on?

Re: Noise Woes

I made two holes in the floor to line up with the screws on the pedal, folded a towel and put the pedal on top. Lined up my seat so that a leg was resting on the towel to stop it moving around and that's reduced the noise a lot. Not enough for my wife though, but that was never going to happen.

Re: Noise Woes

Ditto matey; Teh Mrs hated my GHWT kit, both hitting pads and kicking, with the HD1 she says the pads/cymbals are much quieter and she can tolerate them, but if i'm upstairs and she's down the kicking noise goes thru the floor and she dosent like it at all. Both upstairs again is "tolerable", so it's just the impact/vibration noise transfering thru the floor.

Only real options are to kick quieter, build an isolating platform (you can get commercial rubber ones or like that tennisball one) or trigger kicks a completely different way; eg the doorbell-on-drumstick for disabled people: Kinetic Communications - Channel K - Rock Band Drum Kit Accessibility Mod

Maybe trade her in for one that's more drumming friendly? How hot is your wife? I could be persuaded if she's a go-er
