Get Your (Fake Plastic) Instruments Out For The Lads!

I've noticed in a number of other threads recently that people have been posting pictures of their Rock Band kit, in particular the drums. In the Musicians' Corner section of the AV Forums, there's a thread for people to post pictures of their real musical instruments. Inspired by that, I thought I'd start one to celebrate our fake plastic kit.

Now this thread could fall flat on its face, having been deemed just a bit too sad, but I'm genuinely curious to see what hardware people have (and what sort of changes or modifications they've made to them). Note that this doesn't need to be restricted to just Rock Band gear - anything you use to play any music games can be included, regardless of the console you play them on.

So, without further ado, here is my kit:

Guitars

Two Guitar Hero Les Paul's with official Maple Wood and Blue Fade faceplates and official Gibson guitar straps (they're way more comfortable than the ones in the box).

Drums

The standard Rock Band 2 wireless drums, with Zildjian Trigger Stick Anti-Vibe Drumsticks.

Microphones (Clearly the big one for me...)

Two Logitech Vantage USB wired microphones. I have two for use with some singing games that have duet modes (like Disney Sing It, for example).

The new Logitech wireless microphone. The latest edition to my microphone collection and well worth the ludicrous amount it cost me.

The SingStar and Lips wireless microphones.

The Shure SM58 (a real microphone, obviously!). I got it for other reasons but, if used in conjunction with the Lightsnake XLR to USB cable, it actually works just fine with the Xbox 360.

Mods: I did a search to see if there was already a similar thread and couldn't find one. Hope this is okay.

Re: Get Your (Fake Plastic) Instruments Out For The Lads!

  • RockBand 2 wireless Strat
  • GH:WT Wireless guitar
  • RockBand 2 Wireless drums with MadCatz 3 cymbal add ons
  • VicFirth 5A dip drum sticks
  • Basic cheap drum stool.

Not pictured:
  • Standard Rockband 2 USB mic
  • Singstar wireless mics

I see you kept the blue protective coved on the RB2 drum pedal too...lol, looks good dunnit?

I'd recommend getting the cymbal pack mate. Really adds authenticity to the feel of drumming, when you can hit the cymbals at a higher level.

Re: Get Your (Fake Plastic) Instruments Out For The Lads!

My RB/Gh gear consits of.

Guitars I have a RB2 wireless strat (which is the nuts IMO) I dont have a picture of it but its the sunburst one, a Les Paul and a GH:WT guitar that all sit on a guitar stand next to my drums. I also have a wired RB1 strat but since i got the RB2 guitar, it sits in the spare room as there is no room for it on the guitar stand. I have a real one in the spare room too but I can only play nursery rhymes on it.

Mic Standard RB mic plus one of those logitec ones with built in controller and a mic stand. I also want a stage kit when I can find one cheap enough!

DrumsIve already posted my drums but any excusegrin:

They have changed a little since i took this picture with the addition of the Alesis Trigger IO. Its been tidied up a little now as all the wires are hidden in the box my trigger sits on. The ION cymbals are going too and being replaced with Roland CY8's as and when e-bay has them cheap enough and probably going to replace the floor tom at least with a mesh roland pad again, when I can find one cheap enough.

I Use Zildjian dip 5A's (except they have had it and i need some new ones), Zildjian Anti Vibe 5B's and Vic Firth 5A's. All nylon tipped.

I am not sure if this is allowed as it is for my PS3 (sorry guys!) but this is a web pic of my Peak Starpex Guitar. A full size wood guitar made by Peak for use with RB and GH.

Man that is nice. My rock band guitar is starting to give in so looking for an alternative. Was waiting for the RB2 instruments to be released but that looks tasty....

Re: Get Your (Fake Plastic) Instruments Out For The Lads!

Here's my drums, with Roland rack which arrived today

I do have another Ion cymbal, I just need to set it up. Plus a TD3 drum brain, which I'm still undecided what to do with.

Also have a couple of GH guitars, and a Madcatz mic.

Of course you're allowed. No silly fanboy rubbish in here. It's all about the music (games).

To be honest, I wasn't even aware that you could take that blue thing off.

As for the cymbals, I'm still undecided. To be honest, I don't play the drums all that much, so I'm not really sure if it's worth the effort. I have tried them on my mates' Ion kit and wasn't all that fussed (for the record, he doesn't use them either). But, hey: I'll keep my options open.

Re: Get Your (Fake Plastic) Instruments Out For The Lads!

Ohhhh ahhhhh shiny(s)!

Plex: like your guitar covers, great set of mics
oasismark: nice tidy setup
chewyx: mental drum upgrading Why's your crash on the "wrong" side?
marcbc: Wow! I bet you can rock with that
Hillskill: Posting without a picture? That's just pony!
BAN5HEE: ditto
ASE101: Chewyx's disciple? or is it something contagious!

My modest collection. Not shown is stuff like standard GHWT mic, roland headphones, extra sticks and so on.

Guitars: from top to bottom; original USA launch Guitar Hero.
Free "Cherry" guitar i got from Harmonix for participating in their European launch campaign of GH2.
Standard wireless "bass" for GHWT.
Standard wireless guitar for GHWT, with a proper strap with flames for rocking! Very comfy, wish i'd bought two now...

Drum kit: Roland HD-1, basic throne, SethBox MIDI interface, Zildgian 7A Anti-Vibes with Vater grip-tape, Vic Firth 7A's.

Ahhh so the yellow cymbal on the (second in from the) left is a green crash?! Makes sense, i wondered why you had three inputs for yellow, brain failure on my part

Re: Get Your (Fake Plastic) Instruments Out For The Lads!

It varies depending on what song im playing. If im playing a song with yellow and green crash hits at the same time in it (i.e my hero) then its a yellow. Otherwise, I press a button and change it to green.

Im going to take the colours off though i think.

all these setups look incredibly good, especially the drum ones- I'm still using an original RB1 drum set with a broken pedal (fixed using a couple of knives and youtube)!

I'm just using some spare 2.1 computer speakers I had kicking around. They're not great, and I can hardly hear the kick over the noise of the actual pedal hitting the pad. I love the look of the PM30s, but they're far too much money for what I want really. I'll probably pick up something in the future, but for the moment, those speakers, or the in-ear headphones I use will suffice.
