Media Centre extender through Windows 7

Got myself a Laptop with Windows installed and configured my XBox as an extender for Media Centre. All my libraries have set and configured fine but the actual media centre picture/interface doesn't look right on my TV.

Ive had this feature set up before when I had an old desktop with Windows media centre edition as an OS and that was fantastic. The picture was crisp and vibrant, on this new laptop with Windows 7 the media centre through my TV appears like a PC running through a large screen TV set to the wrong resolution. I Haven't changed the TV since I last had this set up and it looked fine so I'm confused? Help

Re: Media Centre extender through Windows 7

I just had a look at the settings on my Xbox for you and can find no reason why your picture shouldn't be good. Mine is running properly and looks great.
I think it should just run at the resolution your Xbox is set at. Have you checked that your Xbox resolution is set to the best for your tv and also that you're using 1 to 1 pixel mapping (or whatever your tv may call it)? On my Samsung it's called Just Scan and the different sourceseach have to have it set separately, even when they share the same hdmi port.

The 360 will scale the content from native to the 360's resolution. Displaying a 480p SD content will always look ropey.

Also, if you are using wireless you might notice the picture is more juddery, which can give the appearance of it being of lower quality.

Thats what I thought but even the media centre menu looks blurred and its also not quite centre, dont understand because it looked fine when I previously had this set up with media centre edition and not Windows 7.

I only stream music so I may just resort to using Media Player 11 instead of MC.

Re: Media Centre extender through Windows 7

i have windows 7 and although i dont have the same problem as you(which is obviously no help to you ) i gave up using the media centre and have just gone back to using tversity like i did when i used XP.
when watching a video in wmc theres not the same functions as if i was a watching a video through the video menu. there is no pause/ff/rw/step forward/back etc
i dont see why they have it different, makes no sense.

p.s. sorry for the hijack

Re: Media Centre extender through Windows 7

I´ve been using an xbox 360 extender with windows 7 since I dropped sky a couple of weeks ago and its been working flawlessly so far - even the football on ITVHD today. So, there is something wrong with your setup.

Try going through the tv setup options in media center again and make sure you are using the right resolution for your TV. I´m using ethernet not wireless so try using a cable if you are using wireless.

You could also try using a different cable between your xbox and tv, but presumably games look fine?

I also have this problem...

I have 2 360's. One wireless to the left of me and one ethernet in front of me. The wireless one is perfect. Picture quality is immense. My ethernet one has loads of lines through it and is slightly to the left. I've tried tuning to the network (Not that it would have made much difference.. And didnt lol) and am lost. Will go through the settings again and compare to the wireless 360 and see whats up. If I fix it, I'll post back and let you know

xbox 360 VGA resolution problems with Windows 7 MC - The Green Button
